live as Maniac watch party for jets Panthers in the preseason on Saturday August 17th let’s now talk about the current New York Jets Eric manini the exjet coach who’s now an analyst on Fox Sports One was a guest on the herd with Colin card but Colin was off Danny Parkins out of Chicago was filling in and Parkins asked manie about the Jets and Aaron roders missing mini camp does it matter because of the calendar right it’s happening in June and July or does what’s happening now now does it matter to you if you’re the coach of the Jets yeah it all it all matters and and I I really like Aaron roders as a quarterback and and I predicted that the Jets would win the division last year if Aaron had had played and I do believe that he still has the ability to win what what’s disappointing about that situation is he was the one that talked about the importance of limiting distraction he was the one that would talked about the importance of focusing on on only football and and all all the things that he preaches in the press conference and then you get into this situation where he he misses the mandatory miniamp and I get that he was at the the voluntary part and I think that’s great but it it’s not a secret when mandatory mini camp is this year was actually a little bit earlier than last year’s mandatory mini camp for the Jets and and you understand when vacation is and if you have a trip that’s planned you can set it up in a way that it doesn’t disturb the the one thing that you’re required to do in the offseason so it it’s it doesn’t matter in in um the grand scheme of things in terms of him missing those two days is going to dramatically change how he performs the other group performs no but it’s more indicative of all the noise that’s brought into the building that’s so unnecessary and and distracts from from everything else that they’re trying to get and and at the end of the day if if he doesn’t win this year he’s gone the coaching staff is gone and the Jets are starting probably the Jam’s gone everybody’s starting over look we know this though and I could promise you that the impact of Rogers skipping the two days will not ultimately impact the win loss record what it does do it does increase the Target on Rogers personally like if he plays poorly which I don’t think he will people will say well it’s because he skipped Mini like that will be used against him and I think Rogers knows that he doesn’t care he’s 40 he’s going to the Hall of Fame on skates he had been at everything until these two days so he doesn’t care and he communicated it to the Jets ahead of time so if he doesn’t care I know the Jets would like him there but I don’t think at the end of the day they’re concerns because they know he’s Aaron roggers they saw him Light It Up in December last year three and a half months removed from the K’s injury they saw him all offseason look like Aaron Rogers again they remember last summer when we all watched it on Hard Knock so no one inside the jet organization is obviously concerned there I think you want Rogers there that goes without saying but I don’t think you look at this situation and even manini said this as some sort of indication on the type of season the Jets are headed for it has no impact at the end of the day it just gives the Rogers haters something to throw at you and it gives them more ammunition because if they’re coming after Rogers for this just wait till he has one bad game with the Jets and what they’re going to say then just wait because you know that’s coming too all this really does though they just continue to heighten the expectations for the Jets to be good this year because they’re not as M Genie said at the end there that blunt assessment’s true they’re going to have a new coach and a new GM and if they flame out this year probably a new quarterback too that’s how this goes and man gen knows this better than anyone because think about it they promised him when the Jets brought in Favre and 08 that his job was safe no matter what we all know what happened eight and three they collapsed at the end in part because Favre got hurt and was trying to play through the bicep injury and stunk and that cost me in Genie’s job you can’t say it was a wrong decision because it got the Jets Rex Ryan and we know what happened after that but man knows he knows the market he knows how this works they got a win or there’s going to be major wholesale changes but we know this so there’s nothing main Genie said there that’s wrong if you’re the coach you’d want all your players at mandatory mini camp at the same time if you’re the coach in this case if you’re Robert Salah whatever Aaron needs to do to get his mind right for the season you sign up for it because you need him or you don’t have a chance you’re screwed unless Aaron roggers goes out there and plays like an above average Quarterback but there’s nothing man Genie said there that I think is anything unfair it matters but I think there’s some context to it and I could tell you from talking to people with the Jets even people that have been on the show like CJ Mosley or Thomas morstead they swear by Aaron Rogers so if his teammates don’t care and we heard the comments from Bree and sa and DJ Reid then that’s all that matters at the end of the day Aaron Rogers will be there on July 23rd when they report and will’ll be on the practice field for the first time on July 24th and that’s that’s all that matters at the end of the day when you look at this jet season they have to win we all understand that it will have no bearing on what happened in early June it just won’t and I’ll even say this I I think there’s a benefit to the fact that Tyrod Taylor got two full days where he’s the unquestioned starting quarterback even if it’s mini camp because there’s a chance Aaron roggers is not playing 17 games this year and if that happens you’re going to need kyod Taylor to come in and win you a game or two which is what a fair expectation would be for him as this team’s backup with this roster you know this team was able to win seven games last year with the combination of the worst quarterback play you’ve ever seen if Rogers can give you 15 games and Tyrod plays two you should be able to go one-on one or two and0 depending on the opponent so once again it’s a story because it’s Rogers everything he does is going to be a story as will Parkinson said yesterday on the show other than Patrick Mahomes or maybe I guess Travis Kelce he’s the most famous player in the NFL so everything he does is a story but at the end of the day this shouldn’t be that big of a surprise and the last part I think is the most important part out of what Eric manini said there right they have to win injury histories you know I mean or Kur cousin got hurt last year or two have one good year of health and then now all a sudden people think that he can can can keep doing it for consistently like it’s just like you know I do get it Asian quarterback 40 but again you know as the NFL everybody gets HT bck well said to you to your league right a year ago at this time let’s not forget what we were discussing people Tua can’t stay healthy Lamar Jackson hasn’t been able to finish the season the last two years ironically they were two of the only quarterbacks that played every game last year think about that you had a an NFL record amount of quarterbacks starting the league due to all the injuries and the two guys that everyone had the biggest injury questions with actually stayed healthy so you to your league Rogers doesn’t have a chronic injury history he’s been one of the more durable players at his position in the league he’s 40 coming off this injury when you’re older you are more susceptible to injuries I get that but this guy’s not your typical 40-year-old he was the oldest to ever win an MVP at age 37 and age 38 right him and Brady are the only ones that had put up the type of numbers they put up this late into their careers so that matters this stuff all matters Josh Super Chat cuts the line thank you Josh Rogers was seventh in the NFL in touchdowns in 2022 with Alan Lazard as wide receiver one who’s now probably the fifth receiver on the Jets it never gets brought up they say oh he wasn’t even that good in 2022 26 touchdowns 12 interceptions 3700 yards passing broken thumb on throwing hand a rib injury and they didn’t have great weapons that season it was inexperienced players and Allan Lazard that was the first year without Devonte in Green Bay so look I think Aaron will tell you he could play better than what he did in 2022 but we talk about his down year like it means he stinks Jet fans if Aaron Rogers had given you that type of production last year you make the playoffs even with all the other injuries to the o line right he he still played through those injuries played 17 games if Sam darnold Zack Wilson over the last six years had a year like Rogers had in 2022 they would still be the jet quarterback right now because we’d be pointing to that year as see they they can do it here for the memes with a super chat it was painful to watch Tua ball last year look Tua had an outstanding year statistically he’s a good quarterback I hope they pay him $55 million a year one I still worry about him longterm being healthy but even besides that when’s he ever gonna beat a good team when’s he gonna win a game when the weather’s cold and you can’t score all these points when it’s warm outside is Tua still G to be great without Tyreek Hill because eventually that’s going to happen Tyreek Hill is an older player just Mike D’s Nuts checks in Jake you miss TD flip-flopping on the Jets roster all I know about this TD guy is that when the Jets were crushing it during the NFL draft reality at some point started to come across the face of one TD fin talk he could say whatever he wants now but we take you back to late April when this was ushered dolphin fans are you really feeling like this team can compete with the Jets this year our only hope with the Jets is hoping Aaron Rogers is Noah is for some reason the lost it the Jets are loaded they don’t have a single hole on the entire roster now a single hole they just like hey we having fun we getting death for the F like they’re building for the future with a roster that’s complete with no ho oh and they already got a little depth y’all the future y’all just going to have to sit back and chill I’m just saying that’s that’s what he was saying come on now Josh says Rogers number one ability as a quarterback is his ability to protect the ball combined with the top five defense that’s 10 wins alone add production on top of his ability to limit turnovers to nearly none Super Bowl sign me up Josh here’s the thing Rogers has had a top five defense once in his career it’s his only Super Bowl season takes a team the prerequisite is you need a quarterback or you have no chance you still need a team to win the whole thing Gerald says I guarantee that week prior to the Niners game no one will give a crap about Rogers missing mini cam win the opener no one will ever 15 months of having Rogers in our building is that the doldrums of the off season are going to be rough on us because the knives are always out for this guy right what you said before is he’s a Target and that’s absolutely correct but after 20 years in the league I would hope that he would be able to dodge these landmines a little bit better he was pretty pointed in his rhetoric about you know it’s got to all be be about football and the Optics AR on it aren’t great I think the juice is worth the squeeze with this guy I really do of course the the look no one can deny the the Optics are not great when you understand he’s been at everything and he gave the Jets notice I’d argue it’s not as bad as like the initial headline he’s skipping mini camp this week because then it implies he’s missing five days he missed two right and he gave them notice so like when you understand the backstory it doesn’t sound as bad that said it’s not a good optic at the end of the day but I’m also not going to sit here and act like it means anything because it doesn’t no when he kills himself to get back from an Achilles injury and he’s rehabbing and he’s show went up at all the all the voluntary stuff if the guy wants to take a you know a vacation for two or three weeks to Egypt like really gonna begrudge him that you know I like it’s a it’s kind of a double-edged sword but it’s it feels like stuff that he after 20 years in the league might be able to dodge a little bit more defly that’s that’s my only point with him the juice is definitely going to be worth the squeeze because he’s a very talented guy and I think he’s a good teammate but The Outsiders who hate him they’re never gonna they’re never going to cop to that 100 perc and look at the end of the day if he plays well he gets the last laugh you know that’s right that’s exactly right and and like he’s talked about this before remember he he brings this up a lot they gave him so much crap when he first started doing the weekly McAfee show in 2020 and then he won the MVP award so then he did it again and then he won the MVP award so he’s like it was only when I started not having my typical MVP season that people bring up is he distracted by going on M you know what I mean like people will use anything to try and find a narrative that fits their argument like at the end of the day the only thing that matters is winning and in playing well people forget that these are people like you and I they have their lives the things that they want to do things that they have interest in he should be able to do those things amen it’s business man this happens in the NFL every year we saw this with Rivas we the Jets don’t go to an AFC Championship game in 2010 if they just said ah after Rivas got robbed the defensive player of here's a woulda/coulda/shoulda take: after the 2010 season, HC Mangini was fired and arguably the Jets' HC Ryan tenure took a turn for the worse as the wrong players were let go, other wronger players were kept, and even worse than that, the wrong players were drafted. Is there any parallel universe where egos would be put aside and the Jets bring back Mangini to be a special consultant for player scouting & development?

I'm usually the one to criticize these types of people that make all these crazy accusations about the Jets or Aaron Rodgers, but in this case to be fair to him, I understand where he's coming from that Rogers preaches all this shit and then turns himself into a hypocrite. I understand that fact. That's about all. I mean, but you can look at it on Aaron Rodgers side. Maybe this trip has been planned for years and unfortunately it landed on that date. I can't agree that If we dont make the playoffs this szn that the NYJ should clean house. I can see possibly changing HC and some staff but to include GM JD, I think could be a mistake. I think JD is a good GM. He has used his powers to put a roster together over the past few years that I feel is a very viable one. Keep JD and put a new HC and staff in place. Its already very hard to find the right staff at least we have a competent GM why let him go? Great show JA.
