Why can’t the Wild do this?

Dallas Stars will start streaming their regional game broadcasts for free

  1. Here here!!
But even more to the point, how about the Twinkies do something along those lines as well.

  2. Just wait. There’s still a chance something like this could come to pass. The next hearing in the Bally bankruptcy case is scheduled this month. The leagues are pushing back on the proposed bankruptcy agreement and might succeed, which would free all the Bally regionals from their contracts. (Yes I know this is a simplified take. Bankruptcy court is complex.)

  3. I’m almost certain the organization addressed this early last season, stating that they were working on their own independent streaming service in the event Bally folded.

  4. Texas is a massive, massive largely untapped market. The Stars are the only NHL team and if they can get even a fraction of the rest of Texas outside of Dallas to watch games, their revenue will skyrocket.

As of 2023 they were valued at $1.11 billion, good for 20th out of 32 teams. That’s not that far behind other franchises, honestly, but it’s *really* not great given the size of their market.

This is a brilliant move to build fans IMO. People are fans of teams they can watch. It’s the only way hockey will get a foothold in a state that has plenty of other sports options.

  5. Hmmm, if Dallas does this and not the Wild I would be absoltely furious. And fuck Ballys.
