Media Avail (7/11): Dellandrea
your first thoughtss were on on coming to San Jose and um yeah just how how do you feel about sort of being a shark right now yeah I’m excited I’m really excited I’ve heard a ton of great things so um you know I’m really looking forward to getting down there and getting going um you know playing with pav who spent a lot of time here uh majority of his career uh has a lot of good things to say so he’s uh gave some you know good advice and uh been helpful in that department and uh anything specific he he told you about uh living in living in this area and being a part of this team I guess um more just about the people um you know connections he has throughout the team throughout the you know throughout San Jose so more about uh you know connections and and that piece what are your takeaways from from playing with a guy like Joe you know just these last few years um what do you what do you learn from a guy like that so much honestly um hard to pick a few things but uh you know he’s an everyday shows up uh with the smile on his face and and goes to work um so I think I learned a lot from just how he um handles himself on a day-to- day and uh you know was one of the greatest teammates I’ve played with so far in my career um so I really enjoyed that part about him and uh the way he balances you know the enjoyment of the game and um playing every day but also how he approaches it from you know working hard and finding parts of his game he needs to improve on so um you know he took me aside a lot and we we did uh you know different things together and you know he’s helped me get to where I am today it seemed like on that playoff run you guys went on that every had everyone kind of wanted to do it for Joe right I mean how disappointing was it to you know not get to the final I’m sure you guys felt you had the you had all the pieces um was a tough nut to to get to the final and do that for that for for Joe I guess yeah it was devastating um there’s no better guy to fight for um or you know give everything you have to to help him accomplish his goal um or all of our goals so um you know we gave everything we had for him and you know we kind of knew what was around the corner and had that a bit extra juice um for that reason in particular so um easy guy to fight for you know you wanted to win you wanted to go to the final give him a chance give him another chance and um you know we came up short and and it hurt hurt losing in general but it hurt you know knowing that Joe had to go out on that note just from your own perspective Ty I mean how how challenging was was last season um you know and the year before you see you’re you’re in the lineup every night you’re producing and then last season you had to be know you were scratched quite a bit I mean how how tough was that for you yeah it was hard it was really hard um tough to you know grow your game and and feel like you’re um you know improving uh as a you know younger player and uh but working through that I think I learned a lot I think I learned a lot about my game and what I need to you know improve on to be um an everyday player and uh you know help teams win so um it was tough but I I grew a lot through it and um you know I think I think in the long run uh they’ll take stuff with me uh from that experience and and be better off and what do you think about this opportunity with with the sharks you know a two-year deal it’s looks like it’s going to be kind of a young team a lot of new faces here uh what do you think of this opportunity here for you yeah I’m really excited about the opportunity um I think it’s a great opportunity um to you know have a fresh look and um you know find myself in that so I’m really excited to to get going and um you know make the most of this opportunity great thank you Ty thank you Shang hey Tai Shang Pang San Jose hockey now wanted to ask you what are some of the things that you need to do to stay in the lineup every day yeah I think consistency um you know you got to show up every day um and and do it over and over game in and game out um you know producing um helping the team produce you know even if it in my role um wherever that may be so um you know there’s there’s lots of things but you know that’s two of them that stand out to me for fans not familiar with your game what kind of game are you going to show sharks fans yeah I have a lot of energy um I like to play fast fast pace game um you know north south and uh you know whether that be physical um and competitive but uh you I also have some skill um and some some finishing that I’m I’m looking forward to Bringing out are you excited by Mike R bringing in players that may be cut in the same cloth as you guys like Barkley gdo and Carl grundstrom and resigning Luke cunan are you excited by playing with a lot of teammates that kind of maybe play a similar game to you yeah it’s exciting everything um you know he’s been doing the team’s been doing it’s exciting um you can kind of feel it um building and uh it’ll be good to you know play with play with a group a lot of lot of fresh faces um you know a lot of improvement and uh you know it’ll be fun to play with whoever do you know anybody in San Jose well I don’t no okay so uh how’s that going to be um walking into would I be similar to when you first joined a Stars just maybe walking into a place where you don’t know too many people yeah it’ll be a new experience you know first time being traded um having gone through this and you know I’ve had I’ve been thankful for a lot of teammates or older teammates where they know people to put me in contact with um so kind of met a lot of guys um you know over the phone just to you know be familiar with them before going in there so um yeah it’ll be new faces but uh I’m thankful for the guys that have connected me connected me uh some of the team team there already uh Joe help you with any of the real estate recommendations things like that you know uh property and barri is not uh not very cheap so yeah yeah so I’ve heard um yeah Joe’s been good with contacts and in that regard so it’s been great and uh last question I guess in regards with Joe would you would you guys sort of know that that he was probably going to step away because you know seems like you guys kind of knew and try to use it as a rallying point so like when did you guys know uh during the playoff run or even before the end of the season that this kind of might be his last Rodeo I think um you you you just kind of felt it um just felt a little different than years past and then um somewhere along in playoffs you know he would have some conversations um with us about that um so everybody knew um but yeah it was something that we we could rally around all right well thanks a lot Ty and H good luck finding a place here yeah thank you bye hey Ty Max Miller from the hockey news here welcome to San Jose um obviously you know you mentioned the frustration and the struggles of staying in the lineup last season is this something that maybe not you fully you know officially requested but something that you were kind of open-minded to given the situation in Dallas last season uh no it was it was um you know there was talks at the end of the year meetings and um you know felt they weren’t um I guess ex you know open to the idea of having me back and so we had some talks about that and um yeah it happen so sorry go ahead go ahead I was gonna say so it’s safe to say you you know you didn’t really foresee a trade coming you thought you were going to return to Dallas uh yeah we had our concerns about you know what the situation would would have been next year um and so and then you know it was traded so yeah you know you mentioned that opportunity and just you see the young team here obviously you’re still pretty young right you’ve been in the league a few years but you kind of fit into that age group of the I guess I could say the second mold of young guys maybe not the 18y olds but do you see those guys and you see the M CBR obviously you played with guys like rope B hints Jason Robertson and Joe pelski and you see guys like mlin Cabrini and Will Smith here on paper does that kind of you know although maybe the trade was kind of Blindsided does that kind of be like okay I’m going to a really good spot does that does that sort of thing excite you absolutely yeah it’s exciting to uh to be a part of a team you know that’s growing and has a lot of uh great pieces coming in um building to be a great team so uh it’s really exciting to to you know be in that door now and um you know work my way uh into this team and and hopefully be a part of a you know a future that’s bright for sharks fans that may not know you’re a game how would you describe your style of play on the ice yeah uh I think it is uh you know I like to play Fast um you know I like to play you know north south game where I’m um you know advancing the puck and uh you know there’s compete in there and uh I have a you know I have skill and physicality that uh you know I’m looking forward to Bringing out and and showing we obviously the Sharks moved on from David Quinn last season have you had any conversations with with Ryan rosowski he’s told us a lot of times during this time of year it’s more so about who you are as a person rather than on ice what have if you’ve had any what have those conversations been like with him yeah he called me uh pretty quickly after I got traded and we had a good conversation um just talked on the phone about you know the trade and um San Jose the opportunity and um you know um their excitement my excitement so yeah it was good to talk to him and get familiar with uh with him 36 he’s the youngest active NHL head coach have you ever had a coach like that close to you in age I mean is it is it kind of strange I mean something he’s talked about is his you know he feels like it’s really nice to have the ability to connect you know the social media pressures the likes Tik toks whatever it is have you ever had that sort of experience with a head coach before uh I had a I had a head coach uh Eric wallwood in uh Flint he was a young head coach coach so I haven’t had one in the NHL but yeah he was a young head coach um pretty fresh out of uh his playing career that ended short um so it was a great experience with him you know being a younger guy and um being able to relate with us and with him on a different level um so from that experience yeah I would say it was it was awesome it was a great uh great relationship so yeah I think I think it’ll be great awesome thanks Ty welcome to welcome to San Jose yeah thank you JD uh hi Ty uh JD from locked on sharks um you played last year with young guys like Wyatt Johnson and Logan snov and you know why Johnson looks to be a budding Superstar what can you maybe learn from those guys and then pass on to San Jose’s future uh Superstars and like Will Smith and uh mcin celebrini yeah um I think the biggest thing uh is just you know being a good teammate being a good friend to them um try to help them in whatever way that I can um you know I haven’t been playing in the league forever but um you know even a few years of experience you learn pretty quick so um with Wyatt with with uh stank you know you just try to be there for them uh if they need anything make them feel comfortable I think is a big thing make them feel comfortable at home uh know that you know they can be themselves and uh and uh let that show on and off the ice um because it you know it can be intimidating coming in uh as a guy that young so um yeah I think those are the biggest things I try to do just to uh you know be a welcoming person and then I know you kind of talked about your game but when you’re playing your best kind of what do you feel like uh is going well for you when you’re kind of playing your best game and feel like you’ve got it going yeah I think um when I’m playing my best um you know it’s a combination of you know compete and and pressure um whether that be foreing dzone um whatever I like to play fast and um I think when I’m playing my best it’s a lot of um you know creating a lot of turnovers creating a lot of you know winning a lot of four Che races um you know Finding others um so you know there’s elements I want to add and and grow into my game but that’s uh from from when I’m playing my best that’s what I feel like all right that’s all I have thank you Ty welcome to

Very excited to see him play 🦈
He is sad
I think he is not very happy to leave Dallas
Jeez Curtis lol, welcome to the sharks and now I’m gonna hit you with the one-two punch of “How disappointing was it to not win a cup for Joe” and “How did it feel getting scratched”. I’m all for asking the hard questions but why you gotta do Ty like that hahaha
11:30 Not that he spent a ton of time here, but Eric Wellwood is the brother of Kyle Wellwood who played 35 games in San Jose in 2010-2011 (plus 18 games in a WCF run) on the Helicopter Line (all centers, no wings) with Pavelski and Taco Torrey Mitchell.
