Former Maple Leafs Forward Facing Tampering Accusations: Report

  1. Holy fuck… It’s a well-known and open secret that tampering is RAMPANT in this league, particularly at the GM meetings. Do you really think that a player makes a life-changing decision like that in 3 or 4 hours?

  2. This is beyond ridiculous

Every single media on July 1 was saying it out loud: there were by far the most deals on Day 1 of Free Agenzy, and MOST of them were “”leaked”” or confirmed even before the official start time, or on Hour 1

They were basically saying the League has obviously turned a blind eye, and is letting everyone do the deals even before the deadline

So complaining only about Bertuzzi is beyyyyoooooooond ridiculous, especially because his deal was not even close to the biggest ones, and he signed to a tank team – if there would have been a gazillion teams lined up for his services, he CLEARLY would not have signed so “cheap” to a tank team. He would have taken 7×6 to any better team in a heartbeat, and even that would have not been closest to the biggest deals

  3. Get him 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! /s

Maybe a sensible way of doing things would be to allow all teams to be able to discuss contracts with players a few days before “signing season”.

  4. Non-story.

Teams are allowed grace 24 hours before free agency begins. If Foligno texted him the day before it doesn’t violate anything in the CBA.

Foligno is also a player under that same CBA, therefore not subject to tampering rules. If the Hawks front office told Foligno to reach out there would be an issue there, but Foligno himself is clear of any wrongdoing.

  5. I feel like teams should have a period where they declare UFAs they want to sign. After that, players are free to discuss contracts with other teams but can’t sign until July 1st. It’s basically what happens anyway but it makes it permissible.

  6. I thought this was always the work around? A player tells another player to come, they say they would be interested and at noon if the team thinks they are a good fit they come at him with a contract

  7. I want to see the Hawks get nailed because they’ve been caught with enough dirt lately that they should get smacked for this. But I wouldn’t take Bert’s contract anyways.

  9. NHL: We’ve looked into the allegations of tampering with Tyler Bertuzzi and have decided to award the Blackhawks the #1 overall selection in the 2025 Entry draft.

  13. Putting aside for a moment that tampering is happening all the time, why does this get laid at Bertuzzi’s feet rather than Foligno/Chicago? It’s Foligno telling Bertuzzi that Chicago is interested (and whether Chicago put him up to it or not is up for debate, but i think it likely). I don’t see what Bertuzzi did wrong here. All he did was take a call from a former teammate.

Foligno telling him that Chicago IS interested would be what crosses the line into tampering, IMO. Saying “Chicago is great, it’d be cool to play with you again if we get the chance” is one thing, confirming that it’s a legitimate option because he’s spoken to the FO is something else.

  14. Think Bettman holds a grudge? No vaccination? Just wait Bert I’ll get my revenge!
