  1. Montreal has a ton of potential, I still think they surprise a lot of people by being competitive for the wild-card for most of the year, I'm hoping to just be playing meaningful games come March and April, and not just playing spoiler for Detroit again. I don't think Roy or Gallagher gets the 2nd line role, I could see it being Armia given he had a very respectable season last year, as well I think they want to work Newhook to the 2LW given he looked a bit uncomfortable at Center last year, and seemed to play better during that very brief time we saw him with Dach at the start of the year.

As for the blue-line I still think Harris is getting traded, it's been basically known since last year's trade deadline that we were trying to move him given we have such a logjam there. I think Reinbacher and Mailloux are sent down to get top 2 AHL ice time, Hutson I see being on the 2nd pair with Savard to pair up his explosive offence with someone who has a much more defensive game. Barron I'm iffy on if he gets sent down or is used as a 7th D like Kovacevic was last year.

I believe the top line of Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky is going to explode offensively this year for at least 80 points each they all look so natural with each other. I believe Demidov comes up next year and gets the 2nd line spot immediately, but I wouldn't be surprised if we start him 3rd line just to break him in the way we did Slafkovsky 2 seasons back.

  2. An intelligent educated and fair minded Boston Bruin fan? Wow I didn't think people like you existed. Learn something new every day 😅🤣 Btw, great video.

As a diehard Habs fan the only thing missing here is giving proper credit to Captain Suzuki who has led the team in scoring every year for last 3 years including the playoffs in 2021. Slafkovsky's season turned around after he was put on the 1st line with Slick Nick. Also RHP Scored 14 goals in half a season after he was put on the 1st line with Suzuki -due to injuries. He's been a bust ever since. Nick Suzuki just makes everyone who plays with him better but never gets proper credit. PPG Player

  3. Something I find interesting is that so much of the hockey world is trade talking with Marner, but I never hear anyone talk about trade proposals to the Habs. As a Habs fan, I'm not sure how I would feel about him on the team, but Montreal seems to fit all of the boxes for a Marner trade:
    – Needs more forward production offensively, Marner has that
    – Has the cap space to spend on him
    – Toronto needs blue liners and draft picks, Montreal has tons of blue liners and draft picks to trade
    – Age wise, fits their rebuild window pretty well

  4. Harvey Pinard is the kind of guy that could be looked at as a guy who had one good season and never quit got there again or as a guy like marchand that could possibly climb up a roster throught pure work ethic

  5. Habs first line is incredible and keeps them dangerous even while rebuilding. Like their goaltending. Rest of the team will come along and I trust Kent Hughes and Martin St. Louis to pull the trigger to push for a return to the playoffs at the right time, which sounds like it could be as soon as 2025-26.

Fans need to wait one more year before getting even a little impatient.

  6. I know you’ve never been to Montreal, Shannon, but I’m sure you would have no shortage of friends willing to show you and your family around if ever you did take a trip here. Imagine going to a Habs VS B’s game at the Bell Center? Thanks for the video as always, was looking forward to it ✌️👍

  7. 24-25 will be the habs 3rd year of the rebuild, they are nowhere ready to make a push and this is fine. people need to relax with trading matheson and Anderson.
Kent Hughes's plan is in the cap : Anderson and Galhager contracts ends in 2027. so 27-28 is where they make their push to the top.

  8. Do you think they find a way to move on from their 2 bad contracts in Gallagher (6.5 AAV) and Anderson (5.5 AAV)? Absolutely brutal price to pay for 20 pts at most

  9. Habs fan here. THG calls it well this time – no argument from me whatsoever. It's a slim possibility that Montreal would take enough of a leap forward to vie for a WC spot toward the end of the season. They are in a tough division but so are Ottawa and Buffalo.

Last year no other team in the league had a worse record against divisional rivals. Montreal was 5-13-8 vs the rest of the teams in the Atlantic. If their young players develop enough that they find a way to win more games against Ottawa, Detroit, etc. , then yeah, they should improve in the standings. All other things being equal – which, of course, they rarely are.

  10. I agree, outtakes/bloopers would be fun..!
Habs fan here, keep up the great work, HockeyGuy! Even though you’re a B’s fan, your analysis of the Habs is always fair and balanced… 👍

  11. 2 things I don't understand with injury contracts. Who pay the 10,000,000$ salary of Carey Price, is-it the NHL? And Shea Weber, why Arizona took is contract, what was their interest? And the same question, who pay the Weber salary and Why Montréal did not trade the contract of Carey like they did with Shea?

  12. Maybe it's just my bias but I really don't see this team as being bad next season. Primeau is a lot better goalie than people give him credit for and I think a lot of the young players are ready for the NHL.

  13. Dach is probably the C on Newhook’s line btw. I guess they both play both positions, but I feel like Dach is seen as the stronger C and will probably play primarily there. Maybe if they’re on the same line they just switch based on which side the faceoff is taken from though

  14. Once Montreal can trade/release/buyout either Gallagher or Anderson that is when they will be able to go to the next phase of the rebuild. I’m guessing this year if Dach can stay healthy they will finish around 20-25 overall. Between Dvorak savard Evans and armia contract leaving. Next summer they will have a lot of cash to spend and demidov should be coming. So season 25-26 they should start thinking about the playoffs

  15. So Im new to the sport and I have to ask: why are Montreal called the Habs? Where does the origin come from? Thanks for the insight.

  16. Hutson and Reinbacher should start in laval until chrismas after that we'll see. Mailloux must outshine the competition and i think he can if not laval too. Gallagher can not be top 6 the legs can't follow any more, if Armia (a big if) continues to play like he did at the end of last year could be a fit on the top 6, but Roy should grab that spot if he's ready
