Inside the Habs Summer Target, they discuss the Canadiens as a rebuilding team and why it might take longer for them to complete their rebuild. The rebuild team roster is nearly finalized, and Marko, Enortap, and Coach talk about the next phase of roster construction and what is missing for the team to become a stronger NHL contender.

They review the 2024-25 roster and then look ahead to the 2025-26 season, discussing what Kent Hughes needs to do to improve the Canadiens. Marko expresses concerns about Dach and the center position, while Enortap suggests focusing on developing Habs prospects and giving them a chance to prove themselves.

Coach is optimistic, noting the acquisition of Newhook and Beck as key for the Canadiens’ transition before becoming a solid NHL team. Don’t miss the Habs Summer Target show, airing twice a week. Subscribe, like, and leave us a comment!

  1. They're missing top 6 with grit, back 6 with grit, back 6 defensive and RD depth. I'm curious in a few years how they're going to how they're goin to stay in the salary cap if by chance all the top potential players all hit their high ceiling.

  2. It will take longer because our players need HQ coaching and they will NOT get it and have not been getting it.
I absolutely lose it watching our team in our own end just chasing the puck never playing position and ALWAYS leaving BOTH points wide open for easy out passes allowing teams to cycle it forever in our end.
On the offense I can't stand when all 5 players lineup around the outside nobody in a scoring position nobody causing chaos in front of the net and nobody shooting the puck just a bunch of wasted passing around the outside until we lose it.
ALL of the Habs hockey relies on open ice time n space then we look pretty good but as soon as it tightens up we look lost and have nobody that can beat guys 1 on 1 and protect the puck all our players are easily knocked off the puck.

  3. Habs (when Demidov gets here) will still need at least, two top 6 goal scorers. I know everyone thinks Dach and Newhook are going to be most of our 2nd line, but neither has yet to score 15 goals in their career. Habs need scoring, and Goaltending that we have, is a bit rough, but with Fowler coming up, hopefully he can fill that spot. They arent resigning Armia, he's lazy, only plays when he wants to. Now that he is due for an extension, he all of a sudden turns into a decent hockey player, well had u done that the whole time, they'd have no problem extending u. I dont have as much faith in our prospects as most Habs fans seem to. Like RHP Id rate him 4/10, Armia 5/10, Gallagher 5/10, Dach 6/10, Newhook 6/10 (the last 2, i put at 6/10, until they prove different). Dvorak 4/10, Evans 6/10, Pezetta 6/10. Those numbera are too low, we need OFFENSE. I dont know what else to say, Dach, and Newhook arent going to put us over the hump to being a playoff team, we need some scoring. I want them to trade some D and get someone who can fill the net. I know it's coming, but i am imoatient, i have been waiting for 45 years!!! We still have a lot of work to do, before we are competitors.

  4. Had we drafted Ryan leonard last year instead of wine bacher, we'd be in a lot better spot right now. Leonarrd is a center, which is what we need, not more defense, and if u want to add D, add someone like Yakemchuk, a beast that hits everything, AND can put the puck in the net. The position of defense is changing quite a bit, every year, we see more offensive skill. Then we'd have Ryan leonard and Dach to fight it out for that 2nd center position. Plus i just love Leonard's game, he hits people when HE has the puck! Those are the kind of players we need. Not a defenseman who can score 1 goal a year. I know the position isn't about scoring, but it has evolved to be about scoring more. And i dont think reinbacher is gonna be that guy, i hope im wrong, because we've invested a lot in him, and wasted that 5th overall pick, well we will see if it was a waste, but in my eyes it was a waste.

  5. Q) Does the collection phase is done ?
    A) Not really !

Imagine the habs with Suzuki, Caufield and Slafkovskỳ as your secondary unit the first will be Ivan Demidov and … two other guys.

    Q) Culd Kirby Dach be one of those two guys on the first line ?

    A) Maybe but he would need to play a full season first.

Q( What about Alex Newlook ?

    A) Newhook is already a guy characterized to be on the third in the long term.

    Q) And Joshua Roy ?

    A) It about the same as Newlook ?

Joshua Roy is a good third liner winger who can play on the first two line for sure but the quality of those line will be shady at best.

Which means they will not be a cup contender as we expected from the Canadiens in the near future with Roy on the first two line.

  6. There is two types of AHL to NHL recalled the first type a guy on the big club got injured and the team need someone to replace him pronto so they go to their farn team and pick the best guy available that year to play a replacement roll on the 4th line and he will be return to the AHL as soon the injured player get well. Ex.: MTL #74 Brandon Gignac (C)

The second one is when a player have burned the AHL to the ground and has nothing to learn and prove at the AHL level so he need to graduated in the NHL.

Now a tough decision will have to be made. The team will need to trade a veteran to liberate a spot for the rookie.

Ex,. Replacing When the Detroit Red Wings #13 Pavel Datsyuk (RW) to Arizona(C) with #71 Dylan Larkin.(C/RW)

  7. The Habs are too small in the top six are weak at centre and lacking on defence and in the pipes. These problems may take longer than expected to fix. Unfortunate for the Habs and the NHL being when Montreal is elite, hockey seems a bit better regardless of club allegiance.

  8. We also have HAGE coming up in the near future, so why go get a UFA at great expense and not give our kids already in the lineup the chance to rise to the occasion and show what they have to offer?

  9. I don't know if it's Marco or Marko ? But to answer your question What the habs is missing it's still the same ! i.e. The Big #1 Center

i.e. A Jean Béliveau, A Ryan Getzlaf, A Bobby Smith, A Frank Mahovlich, An Auston Matthews or A Nathan MacKinnon, Leon Draisatl, Connor McDavid, Mario Lemieux , Eric Lindross type of Player. You can't acquired those guys on trade normally. The Only way is to draft very high 1rst-3rd Overall and been in a very good year!

I Like Nick Suzuki, he is better last year than the year before but still not sure if Nick Suzuki can lead a Stanley Cup Champion as a #1 Center !

  10. love your approach Coach Frenchy, and this is not the first time. Can you please educate Normand Flynn and Gaston Therrien. Those guys are the head cheerleaders for the strategy of perpetual mediocrity. Mortgage the future to make the playoffs 'because anything can happen in the playoffs'. They don't understand that the objective is to build a long term, 10 + year NHL leader. They think the objective is to make the playoffs. That strategy got us to the finals once, luck more than anything else, but has kept us at the bottom of the barrel for 30 years. We have lots of prospects but I think we still need to accumulate more. Even if we have enough prospects, we still need to asses what we have, they wont all turn out and some may be big surprises, before a block buster trade or free agent signing. That's not to say no trade in the meantime. Hughes has done at least 4 very good trades. A P. Laine could be an interesting gamble. Expensive and unconvincing, but its only for 2 years and has true home run potential. We are 3 years into the rebuild and the fastest team from the bottom of the league to a cup was Chicago and that took 8 years. We will need to trade and eventually, possibly, pick up a free agent ( though that is a dud e.g. Panarin in the playoffs which is when it really counts, as often as it is a home run) but it is far to early for that. We also have 7 forwards to replace to be a true contender. Perhaps Armia could be the exception in that lot, if last year is the birth of the Armia we have know was/is possible.
