As a native speaker, I translated some highlights from his interview here https://youtu.be/kNI-JHUzhqk

The contract process was easy, without any issues. The organization was really interested in him and wanted 8×5; he asked for 8×6, and they easily agreed on this.

The manager promised the team would be competitive and that there would be no long rebuild. A lot depend on the strong core of the team (Kyrou, Thomas, Schenn, Parayko, Buch), then need to play better that before.

The management asked if he was ready to be a center. If yes, they would try to sign wingers. If not, they would find a winger and a center. Buch said, "Find the best player you can. I will play center if needed."

On playing center:

He gets really angry when he loses a face-off; sometimes, it's even more frustrating than when the other team scores. He works with Steve Ott on it.

When playing against the Rangers and losing five face-offs in a row, Tarasenko and Panarin laughed at him on the ice, saying, 'Hey man, win at least one.'

JT Miller looked at him playing Center and said, "Hey man, what are you doing here?"

Giroux, who is really good at face-offs, said, "Hey, sweetheart, watch me. I’ll play my stick like this right now, try me" – And you know he is not lying, and you’re still losing the face off because guys like Giroux work really hard, watch a lot of videos on face offs, and have skills from childhood.

On Kuznetsov playing center: often showing off, messing around, and then still loose the face off, haha.

Sometimes he gets angry at refs, but overall the communation with them is good and positive, they joking around too like, "Hey, can’t win a face off, huh?"

On trade from NYR: It was just business, nothing personal. Eventually he is glad to be in St. Louis. This trade turned his career around, and he met a lot of good people there and made friends on the team.

On trade deadline rumors: It was possible, but the price for him was really high. The rumor was that it was equivalent to three 1st rounders (a prospect and future picks).

Often serious/angry during the game but completely different outside. The team knows his behavior well.

During a team dinner, had a bet with Tucker: if he scored 10 or more points. Toropchenko heard about this, came to Buch and would instantly shake his hand and say, "Let's have a bet that I’ll get 25 points" 3 grand? Deal. Buch replied, "Sure, if you loose, you’ll buy me golden steaks at Nusr-Et."

He called Barbashev about this bet, and Barbashev laughed at Toropchenko, saying, "Are you nuts? 25 points? Not going to happen" Toropchenko was sad, like, "My friends don’t believe in me."

On similarities with tennis player Daniil Medvedev: Visited the US Open with Namestnikov, who joked, "Look, your brother is playing." He agrees they have similar expressions when angry and mumbling.

He has played a lot of Dota since he was 13 years old. Has a routine If it’s a home game, he practices, has lunch, plays Dota, sleeps, and then goes to the rink for the game.

On fights: When young, it happened a lot. As he gets older, it’s more rare, but when it happens, it's fun, and after the game, the opponents often say something like "Hell yeah man, good fight".

  1. Damn, didn’t know I would read through this and my biggest takeaway would be missing Barbie 😭

As the absolutely terrible beer leaguer myself, I can commiserate on the face-offs. And hearing that guys give each other shit like that is incredible.

    Thanks for the translation!!

  2. This is gold omg. Buchy plays Dota, bets with Toropedo and Tucker on their point totals, and knows he sucks ass at faceoffs😭😂😂😂. This guy is probably my favorite player in the game right now, just such a personality
