  2. I want him, but I also wanted PLD. My track record is bad, so that tells me we should stay away lol

  3. The Habs aren’t that desperate. They have something cooking in-house, and don’t need a player with baggage. There will come a time soon where the Habs add good/great players, players your not gambling on.

  4. The only problem I see is that one of our best chips to offer is that we can take on the full salary in any deal. Other teams interested would likely need Columbus to retain.

However, I don’t feel like Columbus would be super averse to retaining as they’re not really in a contending window and can probably afford two years of 50% retention in order to maximize their return on Laine.

So while we can offer something others can’t, I don’t know if that would grease the wheels enough to get a trade done. Maybe I am wrong though and CLB really needs to shed the cap space.

  5. Gimme gimme, take any dman not named Hutson, Mailloux, and reinbacher. The likely Florida first overall and one of our forwards like mesar and boom

  6. Love that for Laine! I don’t know if it’s a good fit with the Habs though

  7. I HATE that him being in the players assistance program was perceived as a negative. How many guys in this league are hiding drug use, alcohol problems, mental health issues, etc and probably struggling with it. And then you call someone who realized they needed to step away for a bit and do what’s best for them a red flag or something. Crazy.

  8. Feel like Hughes should ask CBJ to keep him in the loop when it comes to the offers they’re getting on Laine (if that’s even a thing?)

That way if CBJ is getting somewhat close on a deal, Hughes can come in and decide if he wants to outbid the other team

  9. Interesting in that in the previous post about him in this sub, fans were tripping all over themselves to offer first round picks and prospects for this guy. In the hockey sub, they’re like “maybe a 2nd rd pick”.

  10. I trust that Mtl have good intels about Laine (because of Pascal Vincent) and will make the best decision possible.

  11. I’m bet he gets moved soon now. I’m sure any prospective teams were ensuring he was going to be cleared from the program before acquiring him.

He could definitely not work out but depending on cost I think you take a stab. If he breaks right could be a legitimate 2nd or 1st line player. We have a surplus of assets anyways and not enough spots on our roster.

  12. Didn’t know about the shoulder surgery, that’s another thing to consider.

  13. Just can’t see making this guy the highest paid player on the Habs. Why risk ruining a good thing? Team is shaping up so well and has such a healthy cap outlook

  14. McGroarty is likely still Hughes’ primary target, but I trust our FO and pro scouts to know what’s up with Laine. If we make a move for him, due diligence will have been done and some optimism will be warranted.

  15. I don’t want him unless it’s awfully cheap. I like the culture we’re building here and I don’t think he fits it.

  16. I don’t care if he plays for us or against us, I just hope he’s doing well and got the help he needed.
