The fuck?
Just when he’s starting to hit
For..?
I expect a full on fire sale now. Luciano might have a spot to DH now.
Holy shit this is a shock considering his contract remaining
And that we just signed him this past summer, already sunk cost or did Braves pay a lot? They do have some needs considering injuries. Really curious
EDIT: AND LUKE JACKSON IS GONE!
Edit: since this is high up, yes pure salary dump. Was clear after Jackson was included
Woah that was not expected. How much of the deal are we paying? Marco Luciano coming up as a DH???
Finally, moves! Man I wanted to like Soler but he was just not it. I have no doubt he’ll hit 40 HRs for the Braves over the next 2 months. Go kill them Bums, Jorge!
Luciano DH time
WE GOT RID OF LUKE JACKSON THO YALL WOOOO
Guess we selling this year
Holy sht didn’t see that coming. Guess we are selling
Not mad at this at all. He’s been dogshit all season outside of the last 2-3 weeks
Hopefully, this means we get Luciano or Encarnacion at DH for the rest of the season.
If they can get out from the contract, then I’m happy with a lottery ticket return and an open DH slot. If the Giants are on the hook for most of the $32M-ish left on his deal, then I hope they get something decent back.
Regardless, this opens up DH for Luciano, and quasi off days for guys like Wade and Bailey
I have no clue how we convinced anyone to take Luke Jackson LMAO
Luke is so bad that may be the whole trade
Watch Soler return to WS MVP form lol
I don’t hate the idea of Luciano to DH if this is indeed the idea, especially if he hits like during his last stint, it’ll be a gamble but they don’t have much to lose to try it.
Oh and bye Luke lol you had some good innings I guess
Gotta admit…I don’t like it, purely for the optics. The Giants have constantly reinforced the idea that they are a short term destination. What free agent signed under Farhan has lasted more than a couple years?
Opening ABs for Luciano is a major plus imo
i thought logan made a spite move in the ASG to give up 3 runs so shohei doesnt get MVP but its on another level for farhan to trade soler to atlanta just so they knock the dodgers out of the playoffs
What a weird half with us. Here I was stupid enough to think he was gonna break the 30 HR curse. Way underperformed most people’s expectations for sure.
The Giants received lefty Tyler Matzek and minor league infielder Sabin Ceballos in the trade, the team announced. The deal is done.
I appreciated his wearing the Bonds earring, though the tribute act didn’t extend to the box score.
This is actually a really good deal. Now Luciano has a spot and Birdsong won’t require DFA’ing someone.
Hicks spot already replaces Jackson and evens if they don’t put Luciano there yet being able to have one of Conforto, Yaz, Bailey, Wisely, or Fitzgerald at DH is probably better.
Soler was finally getting hot at the plate but I think there’s some real concern about whether this is a blip.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but this move makes a lot of sense. Helps the luxury tax situation and gives the lineup a lot more flexibility since Soler can only DH. Soler hasn’t been great so it’s feasible whoever is inserted, like Luciano, isn’t much of a drop off.
Hard to overstate how much of a disappointment Soler was. Had to be one of the least clutch power hitters in recent memory, being almost a guaranteed strike out or pop fly with RISP. The fact we also had to slot him in lead off due to how bad he is with RISP says it all. Even in the few times this season where he has briefly gotten hot or ran into one, his hits came at times where it absolutely did not matter and the game was far out of reach, or no one was on base.
He seems a like cool dude and a good clubhouse presence, but to be taking up the DH spot and not achieving your one job is easily the biggest letdown this season aside from Snell’s first half. Of nearly everyone on this team he has had the most everyday opportunities to turn it around and really has not done much, recent history be damned. I wouldn’t expect his current performance to carry much longer either.
