  1. >The Brewers will send two players to the Reds for Montas, per source. Players are currently being informed of the deal.

  2. They need the depth, I suppose. Not an inspiring pickup but I’d rather have him than Ross, if only to see if he can get back to form a bit.

Hope they go for some good INF batting in a trade now, because they’re gonna need good offense for a deep playoff run.

  3. A little bummed to see Wiemer go but I get it. Perkins becoming a regular was making his path back to the bigs considerably more difficult. Montas is an interesting trade piece given his lack of success & control going forward. They must think they can fix him.

  4. This seems like a everyone was too expensive and we just need someone who can throw 5 innings by tomorrow trade. Seems like a lot to give up for that.

  5. My thoughts:

Wiemer is almost 26 at a position of depth. He has the tools but has NEVER been able to put it all together. A tale as old as time. He has been abysmal in AAA striking out damn near 35% of the time with the power completely gone too. Junis is the real loss he has pitched really well in long relief. However the peripherals aren’t great so maybe the Brewers are betting that his success isn’t real. Curious if this is a precursor to another move. Still kind of steep for a rental arm but it makes me thankful we made the move for Civale when did. Just Barrios seems like a steal. Obviously the model sees something in Montas that the Reds couldn’t tap into. The splitter is still elite. The move clears 2 40 man spots which is nice with a crunch coming up here.

The brewers are doing well in an aggressive sellers market IMO.

  6. For everyone freaking out, Wiemer has almost no value as everyone has realized he can’t hit. And Junis is has really bad peripheral stats (4.8 xERA, 4.4 FIP), plus he becomes pretty redundant to Bryse Wilson if you add another starter to the rotation.

  7. I get that Weimer has little value, but 1) I liked him, and 2) dude is gonna go all 2017-18 Scooter Gennett on us whenever we play the Reds and that will be annoying

  8. Sad to see Larry Bird Jr. (Wiemer) go, but the outfield got kinda crowded quick

  9. I feel like the Brewers were desperate for pitching and took the cheapest option. I mean neither loss is killer, but I don’t think the team got better either.

  10. lol at all the people here that think Junis isn’t a dime-a-dozen pitcher. Wiemers value is down to zero; the Brewers are giving up next to nothing for a shot at a turnaround from a guys who’s stretched out and can give you good innings down the stretch

  11. ✅ 5 ERA pitcher

    ✅ Fringe bullpen body

☑️ .230 power hitter w/ no gas in the tank

Oh yeah. It’s all comin’ together.

  12. I had a gut feeling if anyone were traded, it would be Wiemer. I liked him alot, great outfielder, and big power. But he got found out in the big leagues fast and his big upper cut swing was exploited to death. Brice Turang was one of those guys that changed his approach and improved. Wiemer might be one of those guys that just isn’t able to adjust his mechanics.

Edit: Aww wtf I didn’t see they traded Junis too. Not a huge fan of that one.

  13. …and a loss of $3.75 million

Montas better start throwing like he is a CYA candidate after a trade this lopsided.

Argue the value of Wiemer and Junis all you want – this dude is *expensive* for a 5+ ERA project.

I *really* don’t want to look back on this and have Montas just be a $3.75M version of Keuchel.

  14. I keep trying to look up some advanced metrics to justify this (primarily looking at ballpark effects of the Great American bandbox) but I’ve yet to find a metric where he looks good. Usually the Brewers are pretty good at getting blood from a stone, however…

  15. Y’all downvoted me to hell when I said Joey was prepped to be traded… It’s like I grew up with the guy or something…
