Hot or Not: The Canadiens should trade for Laine

Should the Canadiens attempt a trade for Patrik Laine? Will next season be a make-or-break year for the Senators? Is the Leafs goaltending better now than it was last year? Frankie Corrado joins SportsCentre to discuss these in the latest Hot or Not.

  1. Laine kind of reminds me of Alexei Kovalev. One of the most offensively gifted players of his time and was actually a captain for a time in Montreal, but he was known for taking not just shifts and games but whole seasons off. He could have been so much more than he was. I remember when people said he could be a perennial 100 point player in the dead puck era, but every year, he’d be hit and miss. He won one Cup as a younger support player. Laine has the skill, but his compete and will to win just isn’t there most nights. I almost think if you’re at the draft table, you’re better off with the Barkov/Bergeron/Madden type of player who might not have the skill to score every night but does everything for you. Those players also could potentially be cheaper and with a salary cap, you’re trying to save every penny.
