  1. Really hope he finds his way to be competent in the nhl. He’s a bit small and that’s holding him back but if he makes it he could be a solid middle six guy

  2. It will be fun to see if anyone pulls a Norlinder this year with a great camp. I wouldn’t put it past Farrell to be a stand out at camp unexpectedly

  3. He’s a good offensive player. Very skilled and agile and fast skater. He has talents, that’s for sure.

The problem is I don’t think he has a chance to make the main roster because we have already a small super offensive player named Cole Caufield, who he is way better than Farrell.

I won’t be surprised if either he’ll play his final season in Laval and goes UFA next summer (his contract runs out in 2025), or he’d involved in a potential minor trade this season (for a round pick or another prospect).

  4. 3rd line LW in a couple years? Gally replacement? He has good skill but I think the top 6 is out of reach for him.

  5. I had him at 28 in my rankings.

As stated by other people, his skills are there and he can run his line, but he’s so small

I reccon he will need a HUGE step up this season and to stay healthy .

  6. I watched most Laval games last year and honestly he was rather often the best forward on the ice on a game to game basis. Gignac was their most consistent offensive player, but Farrell especially pre-injury had some of the most impressive individual performances. If he can bring that more consistently, he’ll challenge for a call-up. I’d also say I think he was a bit unlucky to not get more points.

  7. It was very predictable back when he was in the NCAA that Farrell would hit a wall once he jumped in the pros.

His entire game revolves around holding unto the puck while skating around trying to manipulate coverage into opening spaces for his linemates.

The problem is that is skating lacks that higher set of gears to do that vs pros that are much better skaters than the average NCAA player. And Farrell doesn’t have the size to compensate and keep possession when challenged.

Not the first player to whom it happens. That’s when the players need to adapt their game, find other ways to compensate: execute faster, simpler, smarter.

He’s find a niche on the PP because he’s got more space to play his type of bait-and-switch passing without running out of room, but 5v5 he’s yet to find a way to be effective. He’s got vision and smarts, he need to leverage those without all the time he could buy himself in the slower NCAA.

The comparison with Kidney is apt, because Kidney was also very predictably going to hit a similar wall back when be was in the Q. If your game hinges on defensemen gifting you tons of time and space for free, you’ll be SOOL once you face defensemen who are much less generous. You need to find ways to steal that time and space for yourself. Neither Farrell nor Kidney have figured out how, and their NHL outlook remains bleak until they do.

  8. Hes on the 4th line on my NHL2024 squad in season 2. Him DVO and Roy. Only has like 3 goals.

    So outlook not so good.

  9. I don’t see it with him. Reminds me of Drouin, perimeter player with skill. Also he’s undersized.

  10. I think he’s underrated. He just had his 1st pro season that had many injuries and he was solid. People are writing him off I still think he has potential
