Martin Erat on the Caps was a mess. I remember how 12PM PST passed at the 2012 Trade Deadline and the various insiders were saying there was a deal with Nashville still to be announced. It was taking forever for details to leak and everyone naturally thought this was a Shea Weber deal.
Then we found out it was Erat, and that Filip Forsberg was taking a nap and unable to be reached to inform him the deal was done.
This was also the year Shea Weber signed an Offer Sheet. Some people were convinced there was something in the CBA that the general public wasn’t aware of that would allow Weber to be traded.
I forgot Halak played for the Caps. That must have been some confusing emotions.
Obligatory “Fuck Matt Cooke”
I still get PTSD whenever I see the name Martin Erat
My mind must have completely wiped Jeff Friesen wearing my favourite player’s number. I had forgotten about that until just now.
We really were a retirement club for players that spanked the shit out of us for their whole career weren’t we?
I have absolutely no recollection of Jason Arnott.
And anyone but Bondra wearing number 12 is tragic.
Kovalchuk definitely seems like a Covid induced hallucination.
Chara being integrated into Ovechkin’s whirlwinds of pregame hallway rituals was very endearing.
That Federov goal in game 7 was awesome.
Did you include Erat just to hurt us?
Also noticing that WSH edition is more modern than most of the others. Lots from the early 2010s as we were trying to figure out how to get that missing piece to put us ahead I. The playoffs.
Tikkanen only on the Caps for 20 games and gave us this iconic moment.
In 2001-02, Benoit Hogue played for Dallas (32 games) and Boston (17 games) then ended the year and his career with the Caps (9 games, 0 goals,1 assist).
I became a capitals fan because as a kid Sergei Fedorov was my favorite player in backyard hockey. When I found out he was in the Caps in 07 I decided to start following them. Didn’t even realize people thought of him as a Red Wing until I was in late high school.
Personally, I would have replaced Craig Smith with Sergei Berezin. And/or Joe Murphy. Other than that though, nicely done.
some wild names in this one. id take out erat just because he is infamously the player that wash gave up filip forsberg for. i also remember ribeiro on wash pretty well because he was sick on the PP for them.

I’d already forgotten about Craig Smith 😬
Caps Legend Martin Erat

Fun fact: the Capitals traded Halak’s signing rights to the Islanders for a 4th
Washington then packaged that 4th and another pick to the Rangers to move up and select Nathan Walker
The Rangers, with that pick, drafted… Igor Shesterkin
How much broker could scott hannans nose get?
He didn’t play a game for the Caps but I want to add Lundqvist to the list
Why do I remember Shattenkirk being in Washington WAY longer than that. Weird.
You missed Capitals legend Henrik Lundquist.
I remembered most of the guys in the salary cap era, became a fan in 08, but I do not remember Marco Sturm in the SLIGHTEST.

What could have been…
I feel like Rick Tocchet has repeatedly popped up the most across all of these posts.
This has got to be the most shocking collection. The first two-thirds were definitely unusual
Federov unusual? No Kozlov?
Linden? What? This must be AI 😭
The Forsberg trade 😂
Been looking forward to Winnipeg all summer! Next up!! Hope you have the guys I would put on my list.
