We should have let Bailey do the catching and then have Bart wear his jersey to do the hitting.
This why he doesn’t need to hit to be a quality player. Of course, it would be great if he could at least approach average offensive numbers and/or avoid these huge second half drop offs But his floor is immensely high due to his defense
Just depends on what the team covets at the position. Most teams go for defense first and anything offensively is just a bonus. This team certainly leans on defense over offense so he’s certainly a cornerstone for the next 8-10 years.
Regardless if it’s first half offense or second half, he should always hit between 7-9. BoMel using him in the middle of lineup, especially second half, is just head scratching.
He needs to bat ninth and only start 2/3 of the time so that he doesn’t break down. He is a great asset to the Giants but must be used properly
Very excited by how good the arm is. But all that framing value goes away if the automatic strike zone (or strike zone review) is implemented. I do think though that it IS a result of skill at receiving the ball cleanly, and he would still provide some value from that, which isn’t measured here.
There’s obviously zero reason to doubt Bailey’s value as a defensive catcher and how it contributes to his overall net positive worth. Defense first catchers simply aren’t exciting and to go from Posey’s offensive production to Bart’s offensive promise (unrealized in SF obviously) and now to Bailey is underwhelming and an easy spot to pinpoint as a problem if the rest of the lineup isn’t scoring runs.
To be clear, I’m not saying that Bailey shouldn’t continue to be the Giants’ catcher long term. I believe he should be. It’s just that the fans need to recalibrate what they can expect from his bat and it’s on the front office to figure out how to get offensive production from other parts of the lineup to compensate.
Bbbbbbbbb but but but Joey “FoReVeR GiAnT” Bart is having a breakout season 🥴🥴🥴
Imagine if we could hit just a little bit to support our pitchers and elite defenders
checks stats, JOEY BART dominating the hitting numbers…..typical giants fans
Giants need a new strength and conditioning coach it seems like. San Francisco is one of the best places to play in terms of climate during the dog days of summer. Imagine how poorly he would drop off in second half in Kansas City or St Louis
I wish he was better at ball blocking, but this is why you put up with this kind of epic hitting slump.
this is why people upset at Bailey’s slump are insane, catcher is the first or second most important position defensively and we have the BEST one. like yadier molina was ass with the bat for 2/3rds of his career.
One wonders how good this is in historic context
The fact he’s at 3.7 WAR while hitting the way he has is a testament to how elite he is defensively
A big part of his value is in pitch framing.
One has to wonder how much that will be affected by the ABS system coming to the Majors, likely in the next two seasons.
I Doubt it, but it would be nice if Snell took this into account for next season! He’s done great with Bailey behind the plate. I was never a catcher, but I’d like to think it makes a difference.
Too bad he can’t throw down to second
Found Patrick Bailey’s agent’s account.
cool, i guess. but his hitting sucks. he needs to hit 8 or 9

Yes … but he has a 543 OPS since June 1 in 216 ABs. Just brutal.
If only we had a catcher who was having an offensive breakout year that could help give Bailey some rest. [https://www.fangraphs.com/players/joey-bart/21524/stats?position=C](https://www.fangraphs.com/players/joey-bart/21524/stats?position=C)
