Well, there you have it…
Nhl news today – The edmonton oilers st louis blues offer sheet week has come to an end, with the decision on dylan holloway and philip broberg becoming official this morning. Pretty big edmonton oilers news and st louis blues news for that matter. It was an interesting situation with doug armstrong stan bowman and their respective front offices, but now we can begin to see how edmonton oilers trades and signings move them forward from this, and how broberg and holloway integrate themselves into the blues young core. Nhl today blues oilers offer sheet 2024

Good luck bro and holladay from edmonton. Will be watching from a far and keeping tabs on these guys down there.
Understandable move by Edmonton given their pending FAs.
Great move by StL adding to their young core only giving up a 2 and 2 3s.
Players who sign offer sheets on teams that are well known to be exposed and vulnerable, tells you a lot more about them as people, than players. D**k move by both of these guys, and happy to see them gone.
These types of guys, are problematic, and STL just inherited all their baggage. Good riddance. Edmonton doesn't need either of them, or the problems they spring up.
Oilers fan here. I am excited to see how Holloway and Broberg will develop in St louis, they both were looking good in the playoffs.
Thank goodness. Had we matched either one, we’d be saying goodbye to either Bouchard or Draisaitl next summer. that would’ve been up to $7 million against the cap next year when we need it all for them
2-3 years we blues will be back in playoff contention. (Was close to making playoffs this season) we Just brought in two great young additions to the team. Will only get better from here
As an Oiler fan it sucks BUT Broberg asked for a trade in December and he got offered a big contract so it is what it is. As for Hollaway he could have stayed but he signed the offer sheet so he did not want to be an Oiler IMO. Best of luck to them but I an still an Oiler faithful and believe in my team…GO OILERS!!! 💧
Pretty fuckin dissapointed they didn't match Dylan. Also concerned about the defense getting downgraded.
Oilers idc how long it takes u better get revenge
Very sad watching these guys develop and then leave
I like the thinking and moves by Oil management. Dealing with reality, and dealing smart
Broberg would be an overpay if we matched it and he wanted out anyways so let him go, gonna miss holloway though
As a blues fan I like it. They probably wouldn't have spent the money so taking a gamble on players like them on short deals. There's no losing from the blues side. We usually don't have cap to throw around so it's nice that Doug was able to for once. Worst case they don't work out and you lose a 2nd and 2 thirds( including the prospect and 3rd for future consideration)
The oilers are getting worse. This is surprising
In the end, they would have made money anywhere, they wete a lot closer to winning the Stanley Cup in Edmonton, IMO short sighted, but now they will get more TOI in a losing cause.😢
Crap!!! I sure wish they would have kept Holloway
Overall it just may have made BOTH teams better. So the whole thing became a sort of love letter by St. Louis: "See you in the playoffs!"
All of us Oilers fans will be sad to see both Holloway and Broberg go, popular players in our fanbase and they were starting to look promising. But I think the front office have done the right thing here. We are not a team that can afford to have young, developing players on large contracts, no matter how talented they may be. We are in win now mode, the only way you're getting a contract that big in Edmonton right now is if you are an immediate impact player who can be relied upon in (hopefully) another cup run. We have to look at the bigger picture, right now the priority is getting Drai signed up and then McDavid and Bouch next year. In a nutshell, this is the best case outcome to a less than ideal situation.
As a Blues fan I could not be happier
Broberg definitely overrated because of the playoffs. Underlying numbers were not good at all, and only reason more goals weren't scored while he was on the ice was Skinner's play.
As a blues fan it is what it is, but i wont lied im pretty stoked. What gets me is all these oiler fans who think they are gonna waltz right back to the finals. They got waaaay slower and are still one of the oldest teams…only reason you came back in the finals is cuz florida was tired from playing in back to back finals. Lets see what happens.
Holloway leaving makes no sense…
I think savioe/podz made holloway expendable i mean someone is gonna want that bottom 6 role broberg much less so but with the draisaitl + bouchard contracts coming soon you cant tie up 4.5 on a guy with less than 100 games there is a hole on defense but i dont think its unplugable
4.5 for a unproven Defenceman is absolutely insane! what a bunch of idiots! The guy spent most of the year in Bakersfield. Hope it bites them in the ass big time.
Despite all that the Oilers came out pretty good I think.
Oil fans should still be feeling better than fLames fans.
Bye Dylan and Philip you did us good bye
They wanted to go to a team that doesn’t condone sexual abuse.
As an EDM fan I now hate the Blues as much as the Flames. I hope for the next 30 years we offer sheet every Blues RFA to troll them.
Way to go EDM, wasted so much time and lost Broberg who will be an elite defender.
After seeing what played out, and after the Oilers are objectionably not as good as they were last season, I have to believe that Draisaitl is going to opt to go to free agency next summer and see what offers are out there. The Oilers are trying to low ball him now for about $13 million, but he's easily going to get near to $16 million. The Oilers weakened their defense significantly, to the point they can no longer dangle the "take less money to win the cup" line in negotiations. Drai is going to get paid now, and it will probably be elsewhere. I personally see him in Nashville next year. Also, if Drai leaves, McDavid will follow. Bad management from top to bottom in Edmonton.
jake neighbors shouldn't sign any contract with the blues…someone is gonna offersheet him.
As a blues fan all im going to say is it really depends on how our core group of guys play this season. We’ve been mid the last 2 years. Maybe these 2 guys could probably wake kyrou up and make him consistent. But honestly kyrou is just depressing to watch and over paid imo.
Would’ve been an overpay if they accepted either of the offer sheets
That's why the Oilers are the favorite to win the cup, and the Blues are not. Cap management is the most important thing, overpays like that are never a good idea.
Laine to montreal has caused the oilers to rethink their line up
Oilers fan, was no way to match it, they should of been signed long ago, now looking forward to wgaf the oilers do next
Oilers fans bad trade
Players like Holloway are easy to replace. It stings now, but Savoie is likely already better, give him a year in the minors and no one is going to miss Holloway.
Broberg played well in the playoffs, when he was fully healthy and rested and everyone else on both teams had been through 3 rounds and were definitely banged up.
Vincent Desharnis is a 6'7 giant man, who barely hits, can't skate, can't pass, can't shoot, and blocks a decent amount of shots. That's the guy that beat out Broberg for a job, and only lost it in round 4 because his knee was injured.
This isn't the loss people think it is. Enjoy the fried mayonnaise balls in St Louis boys, you'll have plenty of time to eat them while you're watching the Oilers in the playoffs
Another Oilers fan here. I don’t blame either Broberg or Holloway for taking those contracts, nor do I blame Edmonton for not matching the offers—especially considering their cap problems.
Broberg had a rather sketchy season but an unexpectedly good playoffs, when he was brought in to replace Desharnais, who had suddenly started to struggle. But no way did I think he was worth over 4m compared to some of the guys the Oilers signed for far less. I hope it works out for him, though.
And Holloway had potential but was wildly inconsistent in the playoffs. Still, I wanted to see him stay with the team, but he likewise is not a 2m+ player yet in my mind. If he proves to be one for St. Louis, than good on him.
Personally, I think the Oil will be just fine, especially now that they have the cap space to work on those contracts for Draisatl and Bouchard. A team can only be stretched so thin, and the Blues’ management recognized that and capitalized. I don’t blame them, the Oilers or the players. This is salary cap hockey.
Maybe if you didn’t pay a pylon, bottom 6 dman in Nurse 8.25 million you’d be in way better shape.
Oilers should keep Holloway. Broberg let him go, he is over paid by the St. Louis, he is making three times more what he is making, good luck to him. Broberg already asked for trade due to the regular season because he is not happy to play in the AHL. Holloway is a bit over paid too but is worth to keep him. These two players did not sign them earlier we blamed on Ken Holland.
Greasy. I’d like to know the inside baseball on these GMs history
The Oilers are the most pathetic Team in the NHL
Oh yeah the bullshit of hoping these guys can help…. they're 2 top 15 overall picks almost fully developed. Fuck you
