  1. Can’t believe they didn’t match Broberg….. what was the point of trading Ceci, could’ve just held on to Ceci until trade deadline or until Kane returns. Our defence just got worse!!!!!

  2. You know why they didn't match ?? Both player's wanted out after not being signed before those free agents !! Sad to treat your up and coming young talent like that !! They figured they get them signed for nothing and it blew up in their faces !!!

  3. What is the goal with this team? Stetcher and Emberson better be the ones to get playing time because Josh Brown is THE worst d man in the league.

  4. It's been pretty well known through Edmonton management kane wasn't going anywhere he is still a good player he has so many different parts of his game goal scoring toughness when kane was in the playoffs how many times team post game that goal was all kane hitting player looses puck leads to a goal kane will light it up healthy and they new this right from start kane wasn't going anywhere and even better he didn't want to even better

  5. They should see what it would take to get Askarov from Nashville. Trading Ceci makes the defensive side better IMO. Hopefully they can find a solid right shot dman before the season starts

  6. Best decisions by Oilers, I think there was no motivation to want to be an Oiler, Broberg is showing signs of a poor attitude as well.

  7. Hollaway Scored 7 goals in the playoffs and they let him go for a 3rd and they couldn't match 2.2 Million. 500k was the difference in signing & he was picked before cole caufield in the same draft year.

  8. I like this, we have cap issues, Drai and Bouch need contracts and lets not forget McDavid soon.
The market has players to replace what we have lost. This does not change our winning team.
Oil have over paid for players in the past and have learned from it and this is the proof. Broberg and Holloway are unproven. They both want a fresh start and this is it. If you have players who sign offer sheets, you know that their intent is to leave.
We are in WINNING mode, and these players are guys you want in your system for long term growth.
Good decisions Oil Management in my opinion. Grab your picks, add to your depth/pool and lets go get the CUP!

  9. This just seems like another big blunder, they ditched serviceable players to make room to not match? I don't even feel like buying a new jersey this season now 🥴😄

  10. Oilers aren’t making playoffs without them and if your gonna pay mcdavid and driasytl 30 million a season then they are gonna doom their careers if they win a cup maybe they would be worth 30 million but as a lifetime oilers fan this is me being brutally honest I don’t see them winning anything taking a chunk like that and makes you think how money hungry they are with that being said oilers don’t make playoffs after this terrible move

  11. The correct decision, in my opinion. They'll feel the loss but it can be overcome. The trade deadline isn't until Feb/Mar, the playoffs don't start until Apr and the Cup isn't handed out until Jun. Lots of time to fill holes here and there.

  12. This is complete BS! Rumour has it Broberg wanted 1.8 mill and Holloway wanted 1.2 mill but Bowman tried to.low ball them at league minimum…..If Keith Gretzky or Mark Hunter were GM..we still have both players today. Why was Bowman hired anyway? Atleast they should've kept Holloway. ☹🤬

  13. thought this would happen – I mentioned the other day they had signed offer sheets which tells you something – no one is bigger than the team, let them go. We can buy them back in 2 years time when they are potentially free agents at the price StL are giving them, if they end up worth it. Take it like this – shipping them out to develop them and not paying for it now, which is a totally inflated price. Let them get game time with StL at that cost. I'd take Holloway back and I reckon he'd want to come back but Broberg, the attitude has to change.

  14. Left Wing Center Right Wing

    Nuge McDavid Hyman

    Skinner Draisaitl Arvidsson

    Podkolzin Henrique Levoie

    Janmark Pederson Connor Brown

    Kane

    Left D Right D

    Ekholm Bouchard

    Nurse Emberson

    Kulak Stecher

    Josh Brown (or Phil Kemp)

    Goal

    Skinner

    Pickard

    Doing This Cost by line:

    23,125,000

    15,500,000

    4,775,000

    3,225,000

    5,125,000

    ———-

    51,750,000

    9,900,000

    10,200,000

    4,325,000

    1,000,000 or 775,000 (Brown is a million, Kemp 775K)

    ———-

25,425,000 or 25,200,000 (Brown is more than Kemp)

    3,600,000 (Goal)

    Dead Cap:

    3,016,667

    Carryover Bonus's:

    3,550,000

    Total with Josh Brown: 87,341,667

    Total with Phil Kemp 87,116,667

    Cap: 88,000,000

    Difference (Josh Brown) 658,333

    Difference (Phil Kemp) 883,333

This is the cap that would accrue IF this is the scenario.

Using Perry and Ryan reduces this by 375,000 (Perry for Levoie) and 125,000 (Ryan for Pederson)

That is a 500,000 reduction to the Accrue amount.

If not keeping Holloway and Broberg was for Cap reasons the best scenario for money is remove the older more expensive 3rd and 4th liners and sub in MUCH cheaper alternatives. Even with that the BEST you can do if I see the math right is $883,333 for an amount to accrue. That's not horrible. More would be better but this gives us 13 forwards (though one of them is Kane) and 7 D plus both goalies. If you LTIR ANYONE you can't accrue cap. That's why they're trying to avoid it with Kane.

  15. I'm not convinced that St. Louis felt bad for us. I would guess that Edmonton placed itself in a position to "look like" they could resign one or both players, then were made an offer by St. Louis to not to sign both players. Edmonton made the right moves by bringing in Savoie, Podkolzin, Emberson and creating cap space. I think they are better off than having Holloway, Ceci, Broberg and having little to no cap space. With the cap space a solid #4 D-man rental can be acquired near the deadline that would improve the D even more (Savard, Provorov, McCabe). Worse case scenario they add Tyson Barrie. He wouldn't be horrible on the 3rd pairing.

  16. The Oilers did a good job replacing the boys with similar talent for much more affordable contracts! Emerson is going to be a stand up stud we don't need him to score. And podz is almost a Holloway just needs his chance no different the Hollway just for the right price for his lvl and experience. Great moves by JJ

  17. We gambled they’d both be good soldiers & comply. These cancerous attitudes are something you don’t need, anyways. Broberg had asked for a trade, Holloway seemingly snakebiten with the Oilers. There’s a reason neither had secured a full time position on the roster, to begin with. St. Louis overpaid, gambling themselves…Time to move on, learn from the experience. You can’t allow players & teams to undermine your business! We sent a BIGGER message to everyone that we’ll only bamboozle our own affairs…seriously, JJ & Co. took us from 31st place to Game 7 & a goal from the Grail. Including some impressive, postseason stick handling, for the most part. ✅

  18. Connor McDavid is the youngest forward on your team now. Take a minute to think about that. Except for the garbage that you picked up from the Canucks.

  19. If this were the decade of darkness management, not only would they have matched, they would have knee-jerked new contracts for each, at 50% more money than the offer sheets.

This is what responsible management looks like. I know most people here have no idea what it looks like, since they've never seen it from this franchise, but in a year, maybe 2, you'll be ecstatic that they were allowed to walk.

Neither of these guys is worth their offer set, or anywhere close to it, and I have little doubt that the Blues are going to regret them both.

Good riddance to both of these clowns, who put their greed and ego, ahead of their team and teammates.
