This was PEAK Offseason

The St.Louis Blues offer sheets went unmatched as the Blues stole a couple players from the Oilers. That and more in today’s NHL hockey video!

  1. The thing is St. Louis didn’t overpay Holloway significantly. Broberg is a little bit more of a gamble at 4.6 million, although I think he’ll turn out just fine. It sucks losing both of these players as an Oilers fan, but having cap flexibility going into the trade deadline next season could actually be good

  2. It's a shame to see holloway go, I fully expected his offer to get matched at least. He's a good kid and will probably be able to play top 6 with the blues, something that was looking less and less likely in edmonton.

  3. I hate that they didn't match Holloway. They still could be cap compliant with matching Holloway without Kane LTIR with a tiny bit of Roster movement if they matched without trading for Podkolzin.

  4. As an Oilers fan, it sucks to lose Holloway, and the overpay wouldn't have been huge, IMO .. Broberg didn't want to be here, plus there's no way that wasn't a massive overpayment, unless he suddenly becomes a second pair defender by spring of 2025

  5. Oilers coulda and shoulda got Holloway signed before the offer sheet happened. It’s obvious he wanted to stay and I’m curious what his asking price was that Edmonton wouldn’t commit too. Maybe they worried about injuries or that he wouldn’t be the player they need quite yet. I understand why Broberg left as the oilers just couldn’t seem to find a spot for him full time and he was hit and miss because of it. He wants more nhl time but he’s pricy based on what he’s actually done. I think we’ll see more offer sheets but not like this exact situation which had real FU energy behind it. It does add an extra level of danger towards letting things go to arbitration though
