Don’t forget that 2nd round pick
Ryder, Halak, and a second for Newhook, Dach, and Laine.
I still kinda miss Romanov ngl but a W is a W
In fairness I’m pretty sure he said that about #1 centers, not “good forwards”
And after all that we still have like 4 LHDs that are better or more promising than what we gave away.
Well, Dach has yet to show his return on a consistent basis but yes for the post.
Looks promising but we’ll see how it all pans out
why is the bergevin hate and hughes meat riding so overzealous. we haven’t made the playoffs under hughes yet. chill out.
it’s harder to trade for good defensemen and goalies, because teams covet them, while forwards are more interchangeable

Bergevin got Suzuki
who is worth more than Laine, Dach, Newhook, Romanov, Harris and late first combined
I dont get the Bergevin hate. Was he the best GM? No but he is far from the worst. He got suzuki who is a top 15 Center in the league who is the most important player on the team. Drafted caufield/Mailloux and the team had some decent playoff runs during his tenure. Also he was never giving a chance to rebuild because Molson wouldn’t let him so he was stuck retooling every year to try to keep the team afloat. He did decent from what he was given
If u don’t know what you’re doing it is
Guys, I may not have loved the “seat of the pants” feeling of the Bergevin management, but this shitting on him is a tad revisionist. He did his best, and history will determine whether that was enough, but don’t forget the successes that he did have. In this case quoted above… are we ignoring the fact that the D corps was built up by Bergevin to begin with?
I hate to be Blanket, first name Wet, but at least with Romanov and Harris, you know what to expect. Dach is coming back from an awful injury, and we still don’t know if he’ll ever be the same. Newhook is promising, but still hasn’t reached the potential Hughes sees in him. Laine is a big question mark. Great talent for sure, but is he all there or will he need to figure things out once the season starts?
Here is the main difference between Bergy and Hughes : they let players develop and have a much more modern approach to managing the team. Players like KK and Mete would have had better opportunities to develop their skills and might have had a better chance of thriving with the habs.
Bergevin did a lot of good things, but it feels weird to have a front office that is “avant gardiste” and don’t spare any expenses to improve the team.
