  1. It was the same when Stephen A complained about Ohtani

These guys can speak English they just don’t feel like it

Ichiro spoke English all the time and even Spanish to other players when he was playing. He used to say the most funniest shit and it seemed so out of character for him lol

  2. Remember that plenty of native speakers of English don’t like being interviewed any more, because in this aggregation era, anything you say can and will be taken out of context to be used against you.

I don’t blame the Hispanic/Japanese/Korean/wherever players one bit.

  3. Grew up in NYC, I’m a Mets fan, most people around me are Yankees fans, Mariano Rivera is essentially a saint to them and I still had one friend who was drunkenly complaining during Mariano’s farewell speech that he’s been in this country so long and he still doesn’t speak English well

Who the fuck cares! He helped your team win four championships, let him communicate by blinking if that’s what he feels most comfortable with!

  4. There’s not a lot you can do to come back from being called stupid on the internet, by a famous person, in words you don’t readily recognize.

  5. obsessing with people speaking English is weird as fuck. I’m sure if you asked this moron if he speaks another language the answer would be no.

  6. this is like the dozenth time i’ve found a nuked account based on a Passan drubbing. dude has a few burners though.

  7. Passan dropping bombs on Twitter Warriors is hysterical and I’m never gonna get sick of it.

  8. How many players have to get misquoted speaking English until these idiots realize that it’s safer for players to speak their native language in interviews, and more than likely encouraged by teams. Not sure if other teams are the same, but the White Sox employ English teachers for players to learn English. Many of them have passed and are more than serviceable in English and still interview in their native languages.

  9. If I was an athlete and knew multiple languages I’m picking the one that isn’t popular with the media. The amount of gotcha questions and repetitiveness of media today I’m making them absolutely work for answers.

  10. there’s a difference between being able to speak a language and being comfortable enough to speak that language to the media who are going to take every little thing you say wrong out of context and turn it into tomorrow’s headline.

Look no further than Jorge Lopez earlier this year, the Mets straight up DFA’d him for misspeaking the word teammate

  11. Didn’t people learn after Jorge Lopez that guys are going to be less willing to speak their second language

  12. Dude making a xenophobic comment with 88 in their handle? Yeah, that’s not too surprising.

  13. Devers wants to be certain that he gets nuance and context from
questions so he can give a nuanced answer. I couldn’t do that in a second language, so I understand Devers doing it in Spanish.

    That idiot complaining?

George Carlin once said,”If you look at how stupid the average person is, then consider that half of ‘em
    are dumber than that.”

  14. Can anybody help with the Casa’s tweet ?? Been trying to figure that out since he tweeted it

  15. Damn. I don’t normally like Passan, but he pwn3d that guy. (Do the kids still say that? No? Ok…)

  16. Colloquialisms, implied meanings/feelings, formal and non formal vocabulary are a few really big reasons that someone would rather speak their native language than even their high level second language.

There’s just too much to consider in a high fidelity or professional situation. Better to trust the professional and hope for a faithful interpretation.

  17. Imagine speaking one language and criticizing someone who speaks two on how they choose to talk

  18. He’s 3x All Star, World Series Champion, 2x Silver Slugger .. This year, he’s 290 BA / 369 OBP / 571 SLG / 940 OPS (7th in the league) / 33 2B (8th in the league) / 28 HR .. he speaks the language HE WANTS, buddy
