Gaudreau’s passing, News is confirmed by the Blue Jackets Org.

It has been confirmed, Johny Hockey and his brother have passed away while cycling last night.

Please go pay your respect.

I know this isn't Habs related news, but I would like to send a hearthfull message to the Colombus Blue Jacket community by centralizing all our condoleance of the r/habs community for them. This is a human tragedy first and foremost and I hope I speak for many here saying that Johny was a well liked player all over.

  1. Absolutely heartbreaking, tragic and worst of all, preventable. RIP Johnny Gaudreau.

  2. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be a member of his immediate family. My most heartfelt condolences goes out to them.

  3. My alarm just rang and I had 3 notifications about his passing.

    What a fucking tragedy.

RIP to Johnny and Matthew. Can’t even begin to imagine what the family is going through, especially in the day if their sister’s wedding.

Stay safe out there everyone. Hug your loved ones and tell them you love them.

  4. Horrifying and devastating news. I was really hoping this wouldn’t be true. Godamn. RIP Johnny Hockey and Matthew. Incomprehensible.

  5. It was reported they were killed by a drunk driver.

    Please. Stop. Drinking. And. Driving.

We can all be part of the solution.

Edit : It might just be some rumors but it doesn’t change shit about this problem. Sorry If I misguided anyone.

  6. Rest in Peace to both Johnny and Matthew. My deepest sympathies and condolences to their immediate families and family members and friends. Their sister’s wedding was supposed to be today I believe…sickening 💔

  7. This is so unbelievably sad, what a tragedy, such a young guy full of life and potential… 🥺

  8. So incredibly sad for his family and friends. RIP Johnny.

Can’t help but think of Sean Monahan today too. Signed in Columbus this summer to reunite with one of his best friends. Sending him some love today too.

  9. Jesus as a parent this would be a nightmare I don’t think I would ever get out of. Such a sad day.

  10. This is so fucking sad I can’t imagine how his teammates are feeling, I saw a couple days ago Monahan say he was excited to play with Johnny Hockey again. Fucking crushing

  11. So many are touched by this.

    – kids have lost their dad
    – parents lost their son
    – sisters lost their brother (the day before one of them was to be married)
    – Blue Jackets lost a 2nd teammate and friend in not that long of a time span.

Then you have guys like Monahan that signed with Columbus likely in the hopes to reconnect with a friend. What a shit situation.

  12. Just awful news. 31 is too f*ing young to die when you’re healthy. It’s just not fair.

I can’t even begin to imagine how devastated the family must feel.

  13. Cannot believe what I just read. He was big during his Calgary stint; always a threat when he played against us. Such sad news.

  14. This is so sad! We as humans spend all of our time divided over politics and arguing about sports and other stupid shit when we should be spending time appreciating life and our loved ones! Life is to short and you just never know when your time is up! My heart goes out to all his family, friends and anyone he as ever touched.

  15. You dont hear about athletes passing away in the midst of their career often. It feels so surreal because we literally see him on highlight videos on Youtube or when we play NHL video games.

I know we didn’t know him, but he was part of of the greater hockey community we are all associated to.

RIP Johnny andhis brother Matthew. My condolences to his family.

They lost Matiss Kivlenieks in 2021 and now Johnny Gaudreau in 2024.
This is heartbreaking. If anyone from the Blue Jackets fanbase is on this thread, we are thinking of you guys as well.

  16. You had to work really hard to find a fan who didn’t like Johnny. He was just an extremely skilled superfan with a contagious passion and love for the game. He will be missed.

  17. I haven’t slept in 48 hours, I had to read that headline 10 times before it made sense. It still doesn’t make sense.

  18. That’s so fucking sad. Two brothers and the fact that it’s right before the wedding of their sister. And Johnny’s two young babies.

I’ve seen an article that states that it may be a drunk driver who hit them…

    RIP Johnny and Matt

  19. Heart is broken for the family and the Jackets org. I don’t even know what else to say, this fucking sucks.

  20. This is absolutely depressing, and on the day before they were going to stand up for their sister’s wedding. Johnny was such a great player, and he’ll definitely be missed.

  21. Very sad news to wake up to this morning. Feel terrible for their family in what should have been one of the best days of their lives attending their sisters wedding.

  22. I feel terrible about so many people, obviously the victims but man the day before their sister’s wedding that’s just soul crushingly cruel and his teammates like Monahan was specifically looking forward to playing with him again, even someone like Laine losing two teammates in the last 4 years
