  1. Incredibly touching to see that this crosses sports. He was such a devoted spirit to hockey, they didn’t call him Johnny Hockey for nothing.

Terrible events for the brothers and their family.

  2. He was the face of the Flames for the better part of a decade. It’s surreal to think a player as good as he was is gone in the prime of his career/life.

  3. I loved watching him in warmups. He would toss the puck up to the jumbotron and catch it on his stick.

    RIP

  4. At least they caught the fucker. He should rot for the rest of his miserable life in jail.

Obviously feel awful for all involved with the victims, but their poor sister. It was supposed to be her wedding day, the best day of her life and now she has to bury two brothers because of one piece of shits actions

  5. As a dad with 3 young children, this shit fucking wrecked me. That poor family. I hope at some point they can find peace and comfort again.

  6. If you drink and drive, you’re an absolute piece of garbage. Take a Lyft or Uber. So many lives ruined by one person’s selfish, stupid decision.

  7. Both were killed by a drunk driver a day before they were set to be groomsmen for their sister’s wedding. It really hurts to think about so I hope their family can eventually make it through this terrible time.

  8. Holy fuck people! Be responsible, PLEASE! Get a fucking uber if you’re drunk. Call a cab. Call a friend to pick you up. Walk. Fucking jog home I don’t fucking care. Just don’t fucking drive for the love of God. I’ve lost long-term friendships when I found out they drove home drunk or were drunk while driving ME places. This is so aggravating. I’m not even really a hockey fan, but to deprive people of even watching someone play a sport at the highest level, let alone depriving their family of their presence is deplorable. Dude had 2 kids who are at an age where they probably won’t even remember what he looked like but through photos. And the other dude has one on the way? Fuck! If the driver was actually confirmed drunk and it was not just an accident, I hope they live a long life knowing what they’ve done.

  9. The whole story makes me sick to my stomach, they were in New Jersey about to celebrate their sister’s wedding but now the family is planning the funeral for Johnny and Matthew

  10. This is one of the worst stories I’ve ever heard. Just awful in every way.

Rest in peace, Johnny and Matthew.

  11. Fuck drunk drivers. The man who killed them, Sean Higgins, is an absolutely selfish asshole. I hope he’s imprisoned for life.

Prayers for their families and the entire NHL community. Life isn’t fair.

  12. This was supposed to be such a special day for the family with it being their sisters wedding, and now its turned into a day of unthinkable tragedy.

Condolences to the entire family, rest in peace Johnny and Matthew.

  13. This whole situation actually reminds me of when Nick Adenhert was killed. Killed by a drunk driver who had already been arrested for a DUI I have no sympathy for drunk drivers and I hope this asshat is put away for a long time

  14. hope dude gets the book thrown at him. his intoxication, impatience and disregard for others on the road killed two cyclists and robbed families of their loved ones. don’t drive drunk. and please give cyclists space when you drive.

  15. This is absolutely horrible. Don’t mean to be insensitive at all, but as someone who really doesn’t follow hockey at all, how well-known was this guy? What would be an MLB comparison?
