Has there ever been a faster end to end rush than this?

  1. 0:08s mark. I remember seeing this way back when, and it was unreal. Now looking back despite the speed changes in the game it still seems like the fastest I’ve ever seen a player go end-to-end.

  2. Bure was an absolute pleasure to watch, even as a NY Rangers fan. Guy just skated differently than everyone else during that era. Absolute Legend, even when he did wind up in NY, on one knee, you could still see the difference. Special player for sure.

  3. I remember watching that game, we’d never seen anything like it (in Vancouver). But the Finish Flash played during that time, and Mogilny in Buffalo. For his size McDavid absolutely flies. Way back but Guy Lafleur did that too.

  4. There is simply no rational scientific explanation for Bure’s speed. I remember watching him live and thinking this is just not possible.

The dude was from another planet.

    EDIT: dude is 5’10”.

  5. My favorite player. Bring back awesome memories of watching him on tv and driving up from Seattle to the games in Vancouver.

  6. Man I wish I was alive to see just how good Bure was, his highlights are crazy, but to see that speed and skill live would’ve been incredible

  8. The Russian Rocket. One of my childhood faves. Man absolutely torched the leafs during Vancouver’s run to the finals.

  9. With Jagr hero of my childhood. Pavel was a great player with Aura of rock star. Yeah, extraordinary fast, but kick the puck from behind is the most amazing for me, unbelievable coordination in full speed.

  10. Mackinnon flies end to end as well. I’ve also seen Hieksanen play live and he gets up the ice quickly

Bure was a legend who would’ve dominated in this day and age but he played in such a brutal era for physicality

  11. There’s always been fast players, and even fast players how can make moves at full speed.
But it was ridiculous how quickly Bure accelerated into top gear.

I believe his dad was an Olympic swimmer, winning 4 medals.
No doubt, his dad would have been prominent in Bure’s training regiment.

  12. I miss home whites.

And man, there are few players whose careers were abbreviated that I wish were not, like Bure’s.

  13. As a born and raised Jets fan living in Richmond at the time, I shat myself silly during this game. Pavel is the OG “beast mode”.

  14. I remember him from the 1991 World Juniors in Saskatoon, where he scored 12 goals. I’d never seen a kid with wheels like that.

  15. I remember when Alexander Mogilny entered the league in 89/90. Those first to seasons he would gain speed like Bure, not as fast. Then dangle around and through the other team to either lose the puck or shoot it into goalie/miss net. But he figured it out and became a dynamic player.

  16. He was my favourite player growing up. I was 11 when he came into the league. Every time he was on the ice it looked like he’d score. The only other player I found to be nearly as exciting to watch was Theo Fleury.

  17. Bure was so far ahead of his time in terms of skating ability. He would be fast in the NHL today, but not glaringly the fastest guy on the ice.

  18. I was there it was awesome.
Funny thing is nobody believes you when you tell them you were there.
The joke in Vancouver is attendance for that game was half a million people.

  19. When he first hit the panthers, it was like breathing for the first time after holding your breath for years. I was like fiiiiinally i have something to watch…..injured 11 games in and was never the same despite putting up back to back nearly 60 goal seasons in the dead luck era. He wouldve had 75 goal seasons and im not even exaggerating. We never got to see bures prime, but the closest thing was those 11 games in 98-99. They were psychotic to watch. No one could stop him. He took over every one of those games. He had 13 goals and shouldve had 25.

  20. I’d put MacKinnon against the Blues in the Playoffs in ’22 (hat trick goal) up against this. I’m not sure it’s as fast, but it’s damn close.
