  1. I’ll never forget how much I wanted Johnny hockey to choose the Devils when he hit FA. Such a special talent and seemed like an even more special person, Matty as well. This unspeakable tragedy still doesn’t make sense and I can’t imagine how hard it is on their family, friends, and the Calgary/Columbus fans and organizations. The whole hockey community is behind anyone and everyone who is grieving over these terrible losses. Fly high John and Matty Gaudreau 💔.

  2. I’m absolutely devastated and heartbroken. When I woke up to the news, I was absolutely shocked, heartbroken and upset. He was a great hockey player, and he and his brother will be missed dearly.

Bruins nation is sending you, Columbus and Calgary, love, prayers and condolences. 💙❤️

  3. Thank you for sharing with us so we all can get through this together. Johnny and Matthew will live on in our memories and the family and friends left behind.

  4. Johnny Gaudreau. A legend in life, and a legend in the afterlife. His impact on Columbus and Ohio in general was huge. Just like Rick Nash all those years ago, his cerebral plays on the ice inspired many young Ohioans to pick up a stick and enjoy the sport he loved with all his heart. When he came to Columbus and as expected could not match his previous season points total of 110 and he didn't win as many hockey games as he alluded he would when he signed, he received jestful mockery from other fanbases. But never once in all these jests did anyone ever question his skill, passion for the game, or his amazing character. No one deserves to die like he did on that night, the fact it was him, such a good, caring soul made a tragic event even harder to process. His family will miss him, his teammates will miss him, the 5th Line will miss him, and every fan of hockey worldwide mourns his passing.

  5. Zach is one of us and summed up how this has impacted Columbus. No one will understand what it meant when Johnny signed here, a move a lot of people ridiculed him for since no one really on the outside believes in our market (hell, maybe even some of you in this comment section). But he did. A top player in this league wanted to be here, and that’s something that we will always appreciate about him.

  6. God bless all of these men for having the strength to do this today. I can't imagine how hard it was. Will always love and respect each and every one of you. Rest in peace Johnny and Matthew thank you for choosing Columbus.

  7. So hard to watch and so hard to understand why this happened. This family didn’t deserve this a d his team didn’t deserve to lose its core player. Matthew didn’t deserve not to see his son be born. I hope the Blue Jackets have a wonderful season for #13 and #21 ❤️‍🩹
