  1. His average is 102 and Chapman hit 105 before as well multiple times, what a weird hill to die on

  2. It’s fitting that the announcer says they have a bridge to sell anyone who believes he threw 105, because if they think teams are out here systematically fucking with Statcast data to benefit only their guys, then I have a bridge to sell to *them*.

  3. I can’t even defend this. TBH I can only defend Orel and Joe Davis. But Tim Neverett and Rick Monday.. whatchaaaaaa doin

  4. So Tim is implying that no one in MLB is actually throwing as hard as the guns say they are??

  5. The sportsnet feed was not better. Earlier in the game they mentioned that Orel could have struck those guys out as well as Buehler did. It was bush league all around last night.

  6. I honestly cannot conceive throwing a ball that fast. 105 MPH? That dude has a goddamn rifle for an arm. Incredible

  7. Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of Tim. Karros is another guy I dislike hearing on broadcasts. He talks way too much shit. It’s annoying as a fan to hear your guys saying some stupid shit like this.

  8. I think Tim and Rick are conflating two things: old school scout radar guns versus Statcast. In the past, there were some suspect radar gun readings being posted and they very much depended on the operator. But we are past that nowadays and the data are not nearly as suspect as they were.

  9. CROOKED ANGELS COOKED THE SPEED GUN TO MAKE THE ANGELS LOOK GOOD AND MAKE THE DODGERS LOOK BAD. OVERRATED AND “LITTLE” BEN JOYCE WHO I HEARD WAS BORN IN CANADA, DID NOT THROW THE BALL HARD. I KNOW MORE ABOUT BALLS THAN ANYONE. THE DODGERS THROW THE BALL HARDER EVERY SINGLE PITCH TODAY.

THE MLB SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND CHANGE THE SPEED NUMBER NOW!

  10. Just some context; Tim Neverett and Rick Monday are definitely a stereotypical boomer duo, but I really don’t appreciate this twitter post also implying that Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser are like this too. They’re some of the most unbiased announce teams out there. They were in awe and spoke very highly of Joyce. Not a lot of Dodgers fans would willingly listen to our radio feed over Jorel.

  11. Why don’t you ask Edman after dude? Dodgers just salty they can’t take everyone they want off the angels like they grabbed Ohtani.

  12. I mean.. I do think pitchers throwing that hard has made the GAME worse.

But its hard to argue that today’s athletes are better when guys used to smoke cigar’s and drink whiskey every single day.

Now their muscles have muscles… also probably why we have so many more oblique injures now… Pretty sure guys back then didn’t actually have obliques.

  13. They probably say this and unquestioningly accept Nolan Ryan’s stats.

This problem, if it does exist, is hardly limited to the statcast era

  14. These are the same type of dudes that would believe Babe Ruth hit a home run 900 feet that knocked out a guy trying to steal a woman’s purse outside of Yankee Stadium cause their grandad swore he witnessed it

  15. What an idiot. Guess he doesn’t know determining the speed of something is a science.

“No one can throw 105” – well ya just saw it

  16. Boy to go from Vin Scully to whoever that embarrassment was feel bad for Dodger fans who have to listen to that.

  17. Do some stadium guns run a little hot? Sure. But when a guy is throwing ~105 does it matter? Or 104.5 or whatever. It’s still amazing.

  18. That’s embarrassing. They need Joe and Orel to do all the games… these guys look silly saying stuff like this

  19. I tuned into their stream last night, almost immediately heard one of them call it “Their world series” and turned the sound off for the rest of the night. No wonder Dodgers fans act like gods gift to baseball when they listen to this 130 times a season.

To all the Dodgers fans dying to be the 5th person to say this isn’t your normal broadcast crew; it get it. I still wouldn’t have been able to make that mistake if someone in your broadcast booth hadn’t said what I quoted in the first place.

  20. “I’ll tell you who ‘he’ is Ben Joyce. A megalomaniacal, psychotic asshole. A finger licking dead-inside pixie slab of third rate dime-store nut-milk. And I’ll tell you what he can do.

He can lick my goddamn cinnamon ring clean and kick rocks all the way to bald hell. In fact, I don’t give a shit if he removes all my skin and pops me like some nightmarish blood balloon. If the last thing I do in this godforsaken cum-gutter existence is light that fuck-box on fire, I still won’t die happy! I won’t be happy until I’ve urinated on his freshly barbecued corpse and husk-fucked the charred remains while gargling Juggernaut’s juggernuts.”

And you can quote me” – Dodgers announcers

  21. Eh radio guys going to radio. Actual TV guys were super pumped about it just as much as the dodgers game thread. We were all in disbelief but in the good way.

  22. I mean it’s not like it was some random guy. If you told me somebody threw 105.5 and asked me to guess who it was I would say “Chapman” and then “Ben Joyce”

It’s pretty believable that the young velocity junky with access to modern training would eventually hit absurdly high velocity.

  23. Having extremely thin skin is part of being a dodgers fan so it makes sense the broadcasters would also be like that. Honestly the players are by far the coolest people related to the organization

  24. As a Dodger fan, Tim Neverett sucks an incredible amount of ass. I can’t stand his old school bullshit, even a little. I’m disappointed, but not really surprised, that Rick Monday went along with him in this.

Joe and Orel were properly awed on the TV side.

EDIT: it was Eric Karros and Stephen Nelson last night, not Joe and Orel.
