I am commenting so I can remind myself to come back later to see what everyone says.
I wanted to say Dom Simon for him being stapled to Sid for so long, but it’s top 3 lines, so I’m sure there was someone worse I’m forgetting
Warren Young, no doubt.
Ramzi Abid.
Worst? So I’m sure we are talking someone who’s played more than like 5 games. Post lockout it’s clearly Jack Johnson. I still don’t think people fully realize how bad he was. Objectively one of the worst players to have a career last more than a few seasons and that’s pure hockey nepotism. Old style gm’s didn’t want to admit they were totally wrong on him in his draft year. He got second pairing deployment at times so o figured he counts.
My favorite JJ stat isnt with the Pens but with the Avs. That team was a juggernaut but even on that team he had 15 sequences in the post season where he had D zone starts. The Avs got scored on in 7 of those 15 starts. That was per Jfresh and CorySnazdjer(shutdown line on twitter). He was so bad he actively sunk a ready made champion roster multiple times on his own.
Now did he deserve all the broke jokes? Probably not but I’m not the morality police. Did he deserve the mock cheers/jeers and scattered boo’s for his awful play? Yes, and people were in denial about how he actively cost the Pens between 3-4 points alone in the standings by being a pylon.
Maybe instead of Worst it should be Most Disappointing. Patrick Marleau comes to mind, there was a lot of hype for that trade but when he got here he didn’t do much before the season got cut short because of Covid.
Kris Beech or Kelly Buchburger lol.
Sergei Plotnikov (still not convinced he was real)
Tanner glass
Dominik Simon
But if I had to pick a worst player, I’d have to go with Jack Johnson. He was frustrating to watch and he never seemed to click with the Pens system.
Eric Miloche(sp?) Rico Fata
Milan Kraft?
May he rest in peace, but Konstantin Koltsov was a new level of bad. First round pick, played with Mario, 144 total games with 38 total points and a -42 for his career.
Ponikarovsky?
Andy Hilbert. Wasn’t long, but him being Sids winger the tail end of Sids rookie season always sticks out to me. Dude put up 18 points in 19 games lmao, then bounced around for a couple of years before being out of the league.
It has to be someone like Mike Eastwood or Matt Bradley. Essentially 4th liners playing up the line up on a really bad team. I think Bradley spend most of his time on the second line and only put up 16 points in a full season. Pretty abysmal.
Craig Hillier?
Sheary….hit the ice more than he stood up
*gestures at the X Generation*
Idk if I’m misunderstanding this one, but I think you mean the worst player on the top 3 lines?
Derrick Brassard and I don’t need to elaborate more than what we gave up was insane. The worst acquisition in Pens history without a doubt.
Honorable mentions
Reilly Smith
Mikael Granlund
Dom Simon
Dustin Jeffrey
Eric Tangradi
David Perron
Jerome Iginla was ass here but that was Byalsma’s fault for putting him on the wrong wing.
Patrick Marleau
Ryan Reaves was not worth what we gave up.
Ramzi Abid
D pairings
Jack Johnson without a doubt. Are we still paying this dude?
Honorable mentions
Cody Ceci
Jeff Petry
Dan Focht
Worst is Rob Scuderi outside of that playoff run. His play scarred me as a teenager.
Also Rob McKenna. Pens thought this was basketball and that his height could somehow contribute something on the ice.
Post Lock out it’s definitely Alex Galchenyuk. He was awful in every single aspect of hockey. How he was a high draft pick I will never understand.
The worst penguins goalie, perhaps in history, is playoffs Fleury circa 2010-2015.
I gotta go Rico Fata as well. He played 2nd and 3rd line minutes, he only played one full season with the Pens but he was a -46 lmao
Wtf fleury for over rated? Goalie haters
Since you removed worst goalie, can we count Antti Niemi? (Only half kidding since he played like 3 games or something)
Jack Johnson
Derrick Brassard spent too much time on Genos wing
