  2. i really think he just didn’t like living in america and it made him depressed, but that’s not something u can say as a pro in the nhl when the majority of teams exist over the border. it must’ve been culture shock to go from a relatively progressive country like finland to the rather polarizing USA. maybe i’m reaching, but canada is more similar to finland in this regard, and if he struggled with mental health issues, it may have been triggering to live in an open-carry state. that and the culture of america differs greatly from that of finland. montreal seems like the perfect place for laine if he wants to feel at home, the architecture and culture and liveliness of the city could remind him of his hometown, not to mention the weather lol

again, just speculation on my part, but as someone who loves living in canada, and has lived in the states for a short period of time, this is what i experienced when i lived there.

  3. Really excited to see him play for us, some players are better when they play in a city they like I hope it will be the case with Laine just like it was for Kovalev back in the day

  4. I’m a bit worried about the hype for Laine.

If he doesn’t meet expectations out of the gate, people will be disappointed, and it could be rough. Memories of Senators acquiring Matt Duchene.

I know Habs management will be doing anything to be the opposite.

For me, I just want him to come in, do his thing. He will be a good player for the habs. But will he be the best player the habs have seen since kovalev? Idk, but i don’t need him to be, especially starting out.

The expectations fans and media are putting on him, all the attention they’re giving him, that can be a lot of pressure. Often times people perform better when you just let them do their thing, and they feel they can just be themselves, and then perform however. It’s way easier to surpass lower expectations than to meet really high ones, when you’re trying to dig yourself out of a hole.

  5. Suzuki also feels like a really welcoming captain that makes people feel part of the gang
