2 inna half hours felt awfully quick but ig that’s a good thing when the game goes like this. Go Guards win tmr
Gavin Williams giveth and Gavin Williams taketh away
Gimmy looked good, bullpen wasn’t too shabby, and we got to rest Cade/Gaddis/Clase so there’s some small victories here
Get the rubber match tomorrow. Hope Minnesota doesn’t get swept. Go Guards
I can live with that one I guess. I’m so happy we won one in this series.
Also, it is time to do something proactive with Kwan. It is embarrassing to see this and I think at this point he needs help so move him down in the lineup or give him a week off or something.
Let’s get back at ‘em tomorrow and win the series!
If you take away the first inning we tied them
Gavin Williams is inconsistent. That much is obvious. However he has had starts like his last one at KC that give you a glimpse into how dominant he can be when he is right.
Carl Willis has a pretty good track record working with pitchers so hopefully Gavin will get more consistent.
For the playoffs, Williams should 100% get a starting nod over Ben Lively. Both have similarly low floors, but Williams’ ceiling is significantly higher.
Positives:
Ohtani didn’t get a hit, Gimmy looks good, Lane looks good, bullpen looked good for the most part
The bottom line of tonight is this: we weren’t going to sweep the Dodgers, we have an opportunity to win the series tomorrow, and even if we lose tomorrow, if Minnesota wins s the standings are exactly what they were entering the weekend, with 3 fewer games to play on the schedule.
Worst case scenario is we lose and KC wins which would make them only 2.5 back and make the division a race again.
Kwan needs rest, plain and simple. He’s played like almost every single game since coming off the IL with his last pinch hit appearance coming on August 7 and his last day off coming on June 7th. Last year when he had his sophomore slump, he played every single game as well, and when Tito finally gave him a break during the July series at Wrigley, he hit over .330 the rest of the month. If he can get two games off against the Sox and maybe the next series as well, then that would be great.
