Why Is There So Much Optimism Around The San Jose Sharks? The State Of The Franchise 2024

With training camp starting this week, look at the state of the franchise for the upcoming season of the San Jose Sharks. Start with why there is so much optimism around the Sharks, thanks to the additions of Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith for the upcoming season. Also, examine the hiring of Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky and why he feels like the right guy for the Sharks. Then, recap the events of the summer, including the 2024 NHL Draft and who else the Sharks added besides Macklin Celebrini. Also, examine the many trades that Mike Grier had to add more depth to the team, including the addition of Jake Walman, Cody Ceci, and Ty Dellandrea. Analyze why the Sharks added Tyler Toffoli and Alex Wennberg in free agency and how important the Yaroslav Askarov trade was to the franchise. Finally, a look at the three biggest storylines of the season: How do Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith develop in their first years, the plan for Askarov, and how does Ryan Warsofsky change the culture?

  1. I think it’s perhaps time to pump the breaks on the coming season. They’ll be more exciting with their additions but far too young to compete for a playoff berth. I like the direction of the Sharks but…..?

  2. I think having cleared cap space they’re in position to accept a bad contract or two to acquire additional draft capital. Who knows? Maybe they happen on a veteran anxious to revive their career but primarily using the cap space effectively will accelerate the rebuild

  3. I expect sharks to give up 40 less goals and score 30 more.
That’s a gigantic leap!!! But still end the season -80 on the year!
And that puts them right around 290 given up 210 for and Based on last year standings that still puts them squarely in the bottom 5. the hole they have to dig out of is large and excluding Columbus and Anaheim the bottom 10 all got better this off-season as well. And Anaheim and Columbus still have a lot of young talent that’s developing so I can’t argue they got worse.

Main focus needs to be on the prospect and young guys developing and growing and the Cuda being a good team and playoff worthy at bare minimum
