The magic number is 18. I don’t think it’s happening, guys 😔
Starting Wisdom is the white flag. This is probably his last stint in the bigs, so letting him go out on top is my guess
Although maybe the Sox could use him
[Julian Merryweather will have season-ending patellar tendon debridement tomorrow. Per Counsell: After a couple of rehab appearances, he didn’t get over the hump to merit pitching the rest of the season. Counsell anticipates Merryweather being ready for ST.

Matt Shaw came into today with a .298 / .389 / .561 145 wRC+ batting line in AAA while striking out 20% of the time.
He’s pretty dang close to forcing a callup when the ICubs’ season concludes.
I genuinely don’t understand playing wisdom. He has absolutely no role on this team, so why not just play busch to learn vs lefties
Since the start of the 2023 season, Patrick Wisdom has a 94 wRC+ against left handed pitching, making outs in 63% of his plate appearances against them. It’s an 88 wRC+ this season.
He’s not going to have a job in MLB next season, so why start him at all, ever, let alone over a rookie who’s already better against LHP than Wisdom is?
I have to admit that I think these last couple of years may be my fault. I started watching baseball in 2015. Those first couple years were so good for me. I think the baseball gods wanted me to know the pain of being a Cubs fan, so we just keep living the same nightmare every year. I’m gonna say 10 Hail Fergies and see if baseball Jesus will give us this game.
Ohtani got his 50/50 season.
I know this isn’t Cubs based, but that is baseball history.
Add that to the list of things I’ve never seen before
