MLB standings if they were scored like football (soccer)

So the idea here was ‘what if extra innings didn’t happen and the game was declared a draw/tie’? In football (soccer) a team is awarded 3 points for a win, and 1 point for a draw. Any points totals that are tied then go down to goal difference, and if THAT’S tied it goes to goals scored.
Unfortunately due to laziness the RS/RA/Diff are based on the current standings, so would obviously include any runs that were scored in extra innings, which are being discounted in the points totals. So it’s not perfect by any means and the formatting/image quality aren’t great, just thought it would be interesting to look at the standings in a way I’m more used to as a Brit!
This table is based off of the current standings as of 4PM UK time, 20th September 2024
Perhaps not surprisingly, when you divide this into divisional tables there’s not a whole lot of difference, until it comes to the AL East, which ends up as follows:

Perhaps not surprisingly, when you divide this into divisional tables there’s not a whole lot of difference, until it comes to the AL East, which ends up as follows:
1 – NYY – 237pts
2 – BAL – 235pts
3 – TOR – 201pts
4 – TB – 199pts
5 – BOS – 192pts
The Red Sox drop from third place in the normal standings to fifth in this system! I guess they’ve had a lot of wins in extra innings!
Have you considered calling a game a draw after 9 innings?
I’m shocked that the Braves have played 17 extra innings games this season.
You’ve messed it up.
The Yankees are 7-8 in extra innings.
They should lose 7 wins, not 15.
They should lose 14 points, for the 7 extra inning wins, but get 8 for the 8 extra inning loses.
Their correct point total is 261.
Back to the workshop, mate.
Also, ties suck. That’s why we have extra innings.
The White Sox honestly should be considered for relegation though
This is one of the reasons I don’t watch soccer.
Why are the Twins not listed by city but all other teams are?
Why are all extra inning games considered losing a win? This doesn’t make sense
Others have already pointed out that the extra innings calculations are off.
I’ll be interested to see the results after that’s fixed.
The Royals are a trash extra inning team fwiw.
kind of neat and kudos for the effort
So we’d be third in the AL East is what you’re telling me.
[laughs]
[cries]
Top 12 make the postseason?
