Report: Some Giants players beginning to lose faith in Brian Daboll

From the article: ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that several Giants players are beginning to lose faith in Daboll and fear that he will lose the locker room entirely if the team reaches 0-4.

“I’ve spoken to guys over the past few days,” Raanan said on the Breaking Big Blue podcast, “and some of them — not all of them — have said it’s starting to get shaky in there. The confidence in Brian Daboll is hanging by a thread.

“Their trust in him is waning.”

This is not looking good.

  1. Based on the evidence, the last person on planet Earth who should hire the next GM and coach of the Football Giants is John Mara.

He has proven beyond any doubt he is in no way qualified to choose anyone to run a football team. At all.

  2. His entire reputation is hanging on a 6-1 start with all games decided by one score. He’s gone 9-19-1 since.

  3. So. Let’s just pretend this is true. Who would inspire confidence in them, then? No one to replace him in the meantime. Who’s likely available next year?

  4. These are professional football players. At the end of the day they need to take accountability for their own play. Want to win? Play better. Catch that ball. Make that block. Break that tackle. Make that tackle. Defend that pass. Do your own job.

  5. Why 0-4 and not 0-3?

I personally lost faith in Daboll last week, not having a kicker available lost them the game and is inexcusable for a professional team. I wonder if any of the players feel the same way.

  6. Told you guys what’s gonna happen, Schoen is gonna stay and get to pick another coach and possibly the rookie QB with said coach, guarantee it. Happens with the GM script all the time with the first coach hire as a scapegoat almost(Howie had multiple questionable drafts, had fans calling for his firing after a 4-12 season and immediately fired ANDY REID and some of the staff around) and Daboll is no Andy Reid.

There was already reports that Schoen had to listen in on the headsets due to some of the complaints about him losing his temper, forget about it if players are going to reporters already. Sucks that Daboll probably wont get a chance with a newer QB tho ngl.

  7. What is this half-assed reporting?

“Players are losing fate in Daboll….okay well, not all of them, but those that I talked too are thinking that it’s going to get bad….which is definitely more than one or two guys…..also only of they go 0-4….”

Also, Jordan hasn’t seen something like this since McAdoo, really?

  8. I don’t care. I don’t want a new coach. I’m sick of a new coaching regime every 2-3 years expecting progress with a dogshit roster. I don’t think some no-name offensive coordinator from this season’s best offensive team will make us a successful organization next year. Unless Mike Tomlin gets fired or Mike Vrabel is interested – I don’t want a new coach. (Belichick is too old – and I’m dubious of whether he can still be a great coach)

  9. People can be mad at Raanan all they want, but don’t kid yourselves. This is what happens to bad teams and probably isn’t a false report. You can’t have your team consistently look this incompetent, have a very public feud in the locker room last season which led to the firing/resignation of a pretty well respected DC, and expect me to believe there is no smoke here.

Players eventually are going to feel like they aren’t being put in position to succeed. And the way Daboll handles the media, it’s not shocking that stuff like this is gonna start popping up.

He can make this rumor be forgotten with a win on Sunday.

  10. No shit the players are losing faith in Daboll

Firstly the giants have done nothing but get dramatically worse since 2022. And he has made many questionable coaching decisions along the way, losing giants games along the process. I can’t remember the last time he had a play call as good as when he went for 2 against Tennessee in 2022 to win the game. It seemed like that was his peak. That and Minnesota games which were against questionable defenses

Secondly, everybody is starting to question management along with coaching. Even thibs has hinted at it in interviews. It’s not a good look for a lockerroom when your GM doesn’t pay players who carry the teams identity on their shoulders. Maybe not paying Barkley, McKinney was the good decision financially, but to act like it doesn’t impact the locker room atmosphere is another point altogether. Thibs said himself Barkley deserved to get paid bc of the work he put it and the example he set. It’s never a good look when the best performers and guys who show into work everyday and give their all like Barkley, McKinney, etc leave without a deal. Even when it’s the right decision financially, it’s a total morale killer. Especially when the team gets worse afterwards

Fortunately they did pay Dex and Thomas so there are some examples of guys putting in the time and getting the deserved results

  11. As long as John Mara’s brother and nephew have key positions in the organization, nothing will ever change. We’ve been through multiple coaches and GM’s but the one constant through it all is John Mara’s relatives.

  12. I really think he’s making this up, and if I’m being honest the media is a factor as to why this team is consistently bad. These narratives that get painted that these coaches are losing locker rooms like this just doesn’t make sense this early especially with how Dabolls first season went. The media is what gets the ball rolling on these firings. Kinda sucks when you think about it I could be wrong though.

  13. I have no idea of the validity of this report, BUT if you lose ugly to the Browns this weekend he is 100% done. He needs to soundly beat the Browns and then needs a mean ass fight against the Cowboys this Thursday to be comfortable at all.

  14. Jordan Ranaan is a click bait merchant. I’m not believing this until players start talking crazy.

  15. Anddddd there it is..

Wow, haven’t even played our third game and reports like this are already coming out

  16. Bad Giants players resume search to push blame elsewhere

That said, this feels like FO speak and JR is Maraville lackey A1.

  17. I can’t believe we’ve gone four coaches since Coughlin who’ve all crashed and burned. And none lasting more than three seasons.

  18. Anybody else looking forward to when Daboll gets fired and then hired by a team with a good front office? And, he gets to draft or trade for the QB that he actually wants? And, develops him and goes on to win a fuck load of games?

Because, yeah. That’s about to happen.

    Fucking Giants, man.

  19. I really don’t think Daboll is the problem. Yes you can point to some head scratchers but every coach has those.

The main issue was exactly what people thought when he was hired. He inherited a piece of shit and eventually you lose the locker room if you can’t win regardless of if you deserve it. The cycle continues.

  20. I don’t want to see Daboll fired but he deserves a lot of heat. I excused last season but he’s got to be on the hot seat. If he can’t handle it and implodes then he’s just another promising coordinator who couldn’t handle HC responsibilities.

  21. After week 1 performance he should have been removed. He had months to prepare the team and what they did was way below any low expectations I had.

  23. There were rumors that locker was fractured with how they treated Saquon and overpaid Daniel. The players on the field looked different when Tyrod and Tommy were in games last year.

  24. “If they hit 0-4”?

What did they all say “two more games and we’re out”? What an odd detail.

  25. Anyone else kinda half expected this to be written by Leonard? Anyways, Hyatt has already said the “trade me” rumor was bullshit.
