  1. I think we will see a bit of a step back from the top line, as it’s a known commodity now. Laine has to be the most intriguing because they’ve essentially added him AND Dach to the second line and that could be a scary good line if the chemistry happens. Also, having Anderson and Gallagher slide down the lineup may mean they face worse opposition and catch fire as well. Really three good lines here and the offense should be fun to watch. The defence will take some overlooking for a couple more years until these guys develop a little. But should be a strength in a couple years. I predict playoffs for this team!

  2. Biggest two things not talked about are the HC and Vinny who are going to shape all this young talent. They're a couple years behind Detroit, but will be an offencive force in a few years

  3. If Laine live up to the hype they're not going for a cup run but I'll be the last one to be surprised if they make the playoffs.

Last year they lost 30 games by 1 goal.. Laine can score 40+ in a good season and it's more than just the stats.. Him and Dach being present mean the 1st line will get to breathe a bit better on the ice.

Nobody coming to Montreal for free wins this year…

  4. If Primeau was not a nepo baby, he'd be Fucale by now. Media shits on Laine in CBJ and he's been called lazy and a disaster but he's on a similar ppg pace as Suzuki was last year. Does that mean he's great or do we overhype Suzuki?

Suzuki is basically Larkin. I'd say average as a 1C if we look at the position as they are usually classed around 15ish in top centre lists in the league. that means about half the league as a better 1C.

The same articles that say Habs got best prospects had Detroit and LA on top around 5 years ago and after 5 years , they're a wild card team. Maybe 2-3 years away from being contenders consistently and that's a long time. So that sort of timeframe is actually no different than the Bergevin era when it comes to success. Once upon a time , Zadina was the "can't miss prospect who is NHL ready" like Demidov and some others are being hyped right now.

If everything works out with our prospects starting this year, which is a rare thing, then we wont be getting high picks anymore and this will have to be it. Signing good UFA isn't something that happens often in the 514 due to taxes and media. I doubt these guys have what it takes to become contenders.

Habs did say they would focus on PR way more towards the end of the bergy era. I think we're all being sold that PR narrative and all of these channels are shills. Workign with Habs PR to get a few scraps along the way. Habs make more money now in one season that they did for a whole dynasty. Business is going good. Saying stuff like " we wanna win" is nothing but PR lol.

  5. The line of Newhook – Dach – Laine would be the 1st line on many other teams in the league. The question will be, can the 3rd and 4th lines eat enough minutes without giving away games. The top 6 are excellent.

  6. I believe Roy starts on LW with Dach & Laine on the 2 line while Newhook leading a much improved 3rd line. Roy talent & hockey IQ is right at the top of this roster with Suzuki. Always in the right position & always seems to make the right read to pass or shoot. He will be fantastic & a Quebec hockey hero. Take that to the bank!!!!!

  7. I feel like the Habs are a huge unknown. They got several great young players and if enough of them have breakout years and Laine can return to form they could surprise people. I still think they miss playoffs but they could be in a wildcard race.

  8. I'm going on 50 and we've never had a stacked prospect pool like this before. Not even close. Of course, this has a lot to do with the fact the Habs had always operated under the idea that Hab fans would never accept a rebuild. All that philosophy accomplished is perpetually finishing in the 8-10th spot, with occasional very good seasons or very bad ones, but never good enough to make serious playoff pushes or bad enough to accumulate several top picks. Just turning in the mediocrity circle. Another thing we had been served perpetually is excuses. We were told we could not trade for top end talent. You could only draft them. So by never committing to a rebuild, we were shit out of luck…
HuGo have transformed this team in 2 1/2 years. Suzuki and Caufield are from the Bergevin era, but the rest is the new administration. We are deep on prospects at ever position. The only thing left to do is consolidate our talent by attempting to trade 2 or 3 high quality prospects/players (or 1st round draft picks) against a truly elite player if one becomes available.
