Sharing our first-timers’ experience to Seattle & in-person game

My partner and I travelled to Seattle this past March from New Zealand to attend our first in-person NHL game, and we got so much help from reading past posts from redditors who asked allll the questions in this subreddit – so just wanted to say thank you by sharing what we found useful and our own experiences!

disclaimer: we are fans of both Seattle Kraken and the Buffalo Sabres, which is why the info isn't just Kraken-centric

  1. Getting into NHL
while others baked sourdough, we got into NHL in the 2020/21 season, and finding the accounts & people to follow that we vibed with was a bit tricky, but these are a few that we have enjoyed.
we haven't mentioned the main broadcasters for both teams as it's a given that they are brilliant!

  2. Planning the trip
it's a lot of money and time to travel to Seattle from NZ, so we really tried to make the best choices for budget, seat choice etc. most worked out well, but just gotta say – still shocked by how aggressive tipping requests were over there 😶

  3. Practice Viewing
so buzzy seeing the players and media we'd seen on our screens for the past 3 years in real life! highlight was a great chat with Everett, who was recently named Washington Sportscaster of the Year – well deserved

  4. Game Day
couldn't have asked for a better experience. from activations around the arena and warm-up chats with fellow fans, to a high scoring game where Ebs scored the opener in 24 seconds, and Jeff Skinner scored a hatty!
