Kane’s Potential Performance Bonus’

With less than $200k cap space, Kane’s potential bonus’ could put us 2.25 mill over the cap. I honestly hope he hits all of those milestones. What will Yzerman do to free up space? Is writing on the wall for Holl and Husso?

  1. Here’s some of the [details](https://puckpedia.com/salary-cap/performance-bonuses-and-carryovers) that make this less of an issue for this year.

*While performance bonuses count against the salary cap, teams are permitted to exceed the salary cap due to performance bonuses, to a maximum of 7.5% of the Salary Cap.*

*If a team exceeds the Salary Cap due to performance bonuses, then any amount over the Salary Cap is considered a Bonus Carryover, and counts against the cap in the next season.*

Kane Bonus’ hit the following year. So this is a 2025 – 2026 problem when we have to cover an extra $2.5m…. 😉

  2. Pretty sure you can go like 7% over the cap with performance bonuses in a year so this shouldn’t be a big issue.

  3. Two things:

    1. Why are there currently 5 comments saying the same thing, bonuses over the cap hit next year?

    2. Is this kind of performance distribution common? Huge bonus for small number of GPs, smaller bonuses for higher impact things (playoffs, 60 pts)? Or is the 1.5M for 10 GP entirely a way to skirt the cap?

  4. Kaner ain’t no fool! I’ve always liked these kinds of things because it DOES push for the player to play, instead of just collect for being there.

  5. Maatta, husso, petry make a combined 10 mil that will come off the books after this year and I would be surprised if any of those three are re-signed. We also have internal replacements for all of them.

We also have 7 mil coming off between kane, Fischer, motte, and lyon, but there’s really no savings to be made there save on kane, but I can see him re-signed and Lyon will cost more so it’s a wash on the 7 mil imo.

No issue if kanes bonuses kick in. I would imagine the 1.5m for 10 games was specifically to push cap to next year when we had space and the extra 1m is his actual “bonus” money.

  6. Yesterday on the red vs white broadcast they said that’s Kane went to Lalonde at the end of the season to apologize for his play down the stretch, saying he could’ve played a lot better. Basically what I am saying is he’s gonna get all his bonuses

  7. $533k is off the books next year for the Yamamoto buyout, which I guess in these thin margins is somewhat relevant.

  8. even if Kane hits all $2.5m of bonuses we might end up having that much space left at the end of the year so none of it will carry over to next year. impossible to predict what will happen.
