[Rapoport] #Chargers QB Justin Herbert, who aggravated his high-ankle sprain against the #Steelers and exited the game, had X-Rays that were negative after the game, source said. He’ll continue to be monitored this week.

With Slater likely out for 3+ weeks, and Alt possibly missing time as well, you can’t send Herbert out there no matter how much he wants to play.

Unless Alt’s fine, play him on the left side. If he can’t go, yeah bench your franchise’s most valuable possession. 2-2 at the bye, beating the teams you should have, isn’t a bad result.

  1. Protect him from himself.

Beating the Chiefs was always going to be an uphill battle, even with everyone healthy.

Take the rest, go into the buy and regroup.

  2. Great news, tbh. Agree with everyone we should just give him and other starters a 2 week bye, not only for our season (which was always a rebuilding one) but also the long term health and longevity of the players. Not worth trotting out an injured squad, and honestly a great opportunity for depth players to show what they’ve got against KC.

  3. Damn, no Slater out there and possibly no Alt? Chris Jones is gonna feast. I feel sorry for Heinicke

  4. Competitors welcome – let the back ups do their best against KC and hopefully we come out with some good tape. Top priority is protecting our 50 mil QB long term

  5. Just rest him next week. Gives him 3 full weeks to recover. Obviously not guaranteed we beat KC even if he plays, and there’s the risk of worsening the injury. It’s a long season, gotta think about the marathon not the sprint

  6. Where are you seeing the injury timelines for slater and alt? I can’t seem to find any reports on them

  7. Let’s preserve our stars, tank, and test depth all season and have Hortiz cook in the next draft so we can lock in a Super Bowl next year lol.

  8. Not completely out of the woods though. I’m assuming there will still be an MRI to see the ligaments if they were damaged anymore. Similar timelines with all 4 guys if you give them 2 weeks completely off maybe 3 if you want them missing Denver should have everyone back full strength. We know Herbert is going to try and play this week just wonder if the management will let him.

  9. Can we talk about offseason priorities already?

    1) Draft or acquire all (capable) interior o-linemen
    2) Get a WR1
    3) Get a huge DT

    That is my wishlist.

  10. True test for Harbaugh. If he puts Herbert out there next week, my pitch fork will be ready. I hopped off the Staley train when he played Herbert with broken ribs 🤬

  11. I’ll take a loss against KC if it means he stays healthy throughout the year. I think Harbaugh and Roman understand (or at least should be able to understand) that the decision not to rest him up against Pittsburgh was a foolish idea, and hopefully they take the necessary measures to ensure not just Herbert, but also Alt, Slater, and even Bosa stay healthy.

Do not be the 2023 Jaguars and constantly rush out your QB out of injury over and over again because you have no viable alternative. If I remember correctly, Trevor was horrible in those starts.

  12. Rest him. Last thing you want is Chris Jones constantly barreling through the interior and getting Herbert killed. This is guaranteed to happen with our dogshit IOL.

  13. Just need to take our L next week and sit everyone even remotely hurt. Let the backups get some experience and try and be as healthy as we can coming out of the bye at 2-2.
