  1. Continued:

Knicks and Robinson do not want to rush the rehab process and both want Robinson 100% healthy before his return. NYK internally is confident in the depth and versatility of the team to compete while Robinson is out, per league sources.

  2. Man that’s pretty awful news. I don’t think the front office expected this either, surely they would have acquired another center

  3. How do you not be more aggressive in FA or looking for a trade over the summer knowing this is the situation

  4. Wow, we do not have a starting caliber center for the beginning of the season. It was nice hoping for 60 wins but this def trumps it.

  5. Jesus, December/January is a long ass time. Thats essentially as long as Porzingis is gonna be out.

I trust Leon and the front office, but it is a bit concerning that they knew Mitch is gonna be out for a couple months and we’re a month away and still don’t have a starting center.

I’m sure they’re gonna figure it out…but idk, ima need a lil bit more urgency.

  6. No matter what, even if he comes back 100% heathy for the rest of the year, Knicks need to move off of Robinson as the staring center for the Knicks. The best ability is availability. Robinson’s body just can’t hold up. This also destroys his trade value. This puts the Knicks in an awful position. Depending on how the Knicks are doing at the trade deadline, teams will know we are desperate for a center and will take advantage. We will have to overpay.

  7. Either start Randle at the 5, or trade for a center. I like Precious but we need another center

  8. That’s a FO whiff.. fuck.

How are you not lock & step with his fucking medical team.

We coulda thrown money at Andre Drummond or drafted one in the first round.

    **FUCK!!!!**

  9. Knicks need a reliable center and that means either trade Mitch or have him come off the bench to reduce his minutes. Season after season of the same story gets old.

FO should have already had a plan for this before the season started. It’s too late now and need to wait until the deadline. Can’t afford to lose random games due to Mitch being out when the east got better.

  10. This sucks but he needs to be healthy for the playoffs. The regular season doesn’t matter when you lose in the second round every year as favorites and blame injuries. Dallas just did it as the 5th seed. Randle at the 5 baby.

  11. Everyone relax. It’s the right move to give him all the time he needs.

Precious will probably start (24 mins) and Sims will get some burn as a back-up (10 mins) and then we’ll see Randle in small ball line-ups (13 mins). This opens up minutes for Hart, DDV, and McBride as well and all three are plus players. At the Feb deadline, we’ll likely ship Precious/McBride for a starting center and Mitch comes off the bench. All will be fine. BOS and OKC play small ball most of their games and so will we. It’s where the NBA is going.

  12. I am the biggest Mitch fan but at this point even I accept he cannot be a starter due to the injury history. On the bright side his contract is very reasonable.

  13. >**How do you begin to replace Hartenstein? [The 7-footer who was so valuable stepping in for injured Mitchell Robinson signed as a free agent with the Thunder in July.]**

    >We went through that last year. We started the season where Mitchell was the starter and he was off to a monster start. When he went out, Jericho Sims started initially, then he got hurt. Then Isaiah came in and did what he did. But when he got hurt, Precious [Achiuwa] came in along with Taj Gibson. So we rotated guys at that position the entire year.

    >We’ll probably have to do it by committee. We’ll look at some different things, because we have versatility — we could see Julius more at the 5. I don’t want to do that for long stretches, it would take its toll, but to have him do it for 10 or 15 minutes, I think he can do it well. He also would create a lot of [offensive] advantages.

Words from Thibs directly. Sounds like it’ll probably be a mix of Precious, Randle, and OG.

  14. Positive: ideally holding him out means Mitch won’t have his usual wear and tear in April-June

Negative: knowing Mitch’s injury history you can’t assume that’s what this means.

Positive: This probably forces Thibs to run the Randle, OG, Mikal, DiVo, Brunson death lineup 3.0 more often than he would have

Negative: Asking Randle/OG to guard centers 20mpg for 3 months isn’t ideal and we gotta worry about wear and tear for those guys too

  15. This is essentially what I expected. This could be viewed as good news in a way bc we’re not rushing him back. Hope he’s healthy for the playoffs and back at 100% by then. Getting back by December/January does give him enough time to get back to speed

  16. Love Mitch, but it’s time to move on from him. Sometimes the best ability is availability and the dude is always hurt.

  17. Why are we just learning this now? Knew something was wrong cause Mitch hasn’t been posting any offseason clips of himself practicing his 3pt shooting…

  18. Perfect opportunity to see if Sims can sink or swim with the starters and/or remain in the rotation. It’s beyond gut check time.

  19. Randle while we are small, Precious & Sims when he moves up to the 4.

This is fine honestly. It’s a long season.
