Report: Grizzlies waive former MVP Rose

  1. I thought we’d give him another shot but it seems like Kleiman is confident enough in Pippin Jr (and Bane/Smart taking playmaking duties) to pull the plug now.

If this is the end of the road for DRose’s career, damn it’s been a hell of a ride

  2. So I imagine Pippen gets moved up to the standard roster right? Do we leave that 15th roster spot open or? Honestly I’m a huge fan of Cam Spencer tbh and would love if they signed him to standard as well.

  3. He might sign a ten day with the bulls to retire as a Bull but other than that I think he’s done.

  4. I’m 43 and I can’t play golf anymore because of injuries. It’s devastating. I won a junior tournament when I was a kid and was looking to get my tour card and go pro, it never panned out. Just mentioning it because I feel for D, but I agree with kleiman it’s the right move.

  5. I heard it was a mutual agreement, but the wording was strange in that they said, “Memphis let Rose out of his deal”. I wish him the best, but I am eyeing those 2 open roster spots.

  6. Sad but necessary. Hated to see him like this. It’s cool I got to see him warm up last year in the one game I’ve been to (also Ja’s first home game of the season)

  7. Good! Was a completely wasted roster spot on this team, provided no value as a player because of zero reliability health wise.

With GG Jacksons injury + open roster spot they couldn’t afford another dead roster spot, especially with what happened last season. Hopefully they prioritize front court players, although its slim pickens. Maybe take a flyer on Bazley or Little. Fultz would also be nice pickup just for some additional playmaking when Morant and Bane are off the floor.

  8. Drose my favorite player of all time and i was blessed to see him play for my favorite team for a year. I hope the bulls can pick him up.

  9. Sucks, but probably necessary. Secretly have been hoping we’d rip the bandaid off before training camp anyway. I’m very much not a fan of clogging a roster spot on someone who has nothing left in the tank seemingly just because we don’t trust our franchise players to mature. Would be very cool with Rose sticking around the team and franchise in whatever capacity he’d like, advisor, coach, ambassador, cheerleader, etc., but we should use the end of our bench on actual break in case of emergency players and not nostalgia.

Wish him all the best should another team want to kick the tires, but I’d be surprised. His body simply won’t allow him to contribute much at this stage. Feels like the end of an entirely too short but at least very memorable career.
