Round 11 – Who was the best forward in 1.0 history (1972-1996) and was/is the best forward in 2.0 history (2011-2024)?

Wheeler I would have to think. Only jet to get 2 90+ point seasons
1.0 – honourable mentions to Bobby Hull and Teemu Selanne, but it’s clearly Ducky all the way. Three terrific Hall of Famers but Hawerchuk is the only one there solely based on his play with the Jets.
2.0 – tougher call but I’ll go with Kyle Conner.

2.0 Tough call but I’m going with Wheeler. Others have a chance to supplant him in the record books eventually but as it stands it’s gotta be Wheels.

Ducky, and I’m surprised no one’s said Scheifele yet. Dude has like 5+ ppg+ seasons, and pretty consistent ~30 goal scorer too
Always amazes me how much people overvalue goal scoring ability when discussing a player being the best. Seems like two way players are forgotten in every sport when these discussions pop up. If I’m trying to name the BEST, I am thinking:
– Goal scoring – Passing/playmaking – Patience and vision – Denfense/forechecking – Responsibility with the puck – Hustle – Board battles – Physicality – Ability to bring the best out of linemates
I don’t mind Wheeler here at all. He can play literally any forward position. But seeing Connor is a bit of a laugh in my eyes. I like a pretty sniper as much as anyone else, but his defense is middle of the pack at best, there’s almost no physicality, his passing is alright, and he doesn’t really make any of his linemates better by floating in the offensive zone waiting for a pass, or by cherry-picking near the blue-line hoping someone else makes a play to set him up. He gets pretty streaky and can easily disappear.
I agree he’s really good at his particular play style, but to call him the best Jets 2.0 forward EVER? Put five Wheeler clones on the ice and you’ve got something well rounded and competitive. Five Connors? I feel like they’d get steamrolled the moment play turned physical or they had to play defense. Deadly Poweplay potential though, I’ll give you that.

As much as people like to rag on him, Scheiffele overall is up there. But I still think Wheeler takes the cake for 2.0
Scheifs easily, dude puts up 30goals nearly every season and is a huge reason the team is good. Bonus mention is that whenever he gets injured we crumble and fall apart
