Drama in D.C. | Royals grab series-opening win vs. Nationals

The Royals needed an ace performance to stop a long skid, and Cole Ragans gave them everything they could ask for. The left-hander turned in 6.0 shutout innings vs. the Nationals, striking out 6 and allowing just 3 hits. Neither team could get on the scoreboard in the first 9 innings until a mishandled Bobby Witt Jr. infield single allowed Kyle Isbel to scamper home to break the deadlock. Lucas Erceg came on in the 10th with the lead and slammed the door, striking out a pair and giving the Royals a much-needed win to open the final road trip of the season.

  1. Royals are definitely a better ball club. Their pitching rotation is really good. Relief needs some work.

Their main problem is their hitting. The team has been in a collective team batting slump since leaving Cleveland weeks ago. On the occasion when they generate many runs, their pitching collapses.

They tend to make average pitchers into Cy Young Award Winners with their out parades. I,m really glad they were able to sign Witt Jr. To a multiple year contract. I don't see the Royals coming out of this batting slump.

And I really hope I'm wrong. It's a good win today, though.
    Go, Royals!!!!
