>If the Diamondbacks are eliminated over the weekend, and the Mets and Braves have not yet settled seeding, it will be at the Commissioner’s (Rob Manfred’s) discretion whether to play Monday for seeding purposes.
Seemed obvious
What a disgrace
This checks out. No way these games are going to be played and the Mets need to leave before the hurricane arrives.
Just a gong show from top to bottom
Yup. There was no way they were playing today, no way they were playing tomorrow, and teams are gonna have a rough time getting in and out of ATL on Friday.
Well that is beneficial to absolutely no one.
who could possibly have seen this coming…
ffs
What a shitshow
Disaster for the Braves doesn’t quite cover it. That basically guarantees the Braves won’t be able to pitch Sale in either game Monday unless they don’t start him this weekend against KC (Not happening, they realistically have to sweep) teams now have to hope for the best case in which Arizona loses out and at least one of the games on next Monday is completely meaningless
If they can’t get +0.5 on Arizona by the end of Game 1 on Monday then they have to sweep a doubleheader without their ace to make the playoffs, it’s a bad situation to cap off a pretty crappy 2024
tomorrow night sounds like a marvelous time for the Royals to take a flight into Atlanta
I am shocked. Who could have seen this coming 5 days ago?
The Diamondbacks can make all the drama go away for everyone. Just saying.
“Just a piece of metal” – Rob Manfred, telling the truth.
The league doesn’t give a shit at all.
MANFRED MASTERCLASS INCOMING
*The Phillies, Dodgers, Brewers, Padres, and Diamondbacks liked this post*
Seems like a pretty blatant fumble which was always going to have knock-on effects for these teams’ playoff chances given how tight the WC race is.
They have to play their games Sunday, then Mets fly to Atlanta, both play a doubleheader Monday and then one or both fly somewhere for the WC on Tuesday (because the Braves won’t be hosting a WC)? Nightmare for them, boon for anyone playing them.
If only we had known about this a few days ago maybe the MLB could have done something proactive about this. Oh wait we did fucking know. Literally the worst case scenario is playing out and we’re stuck with a doubleheader on Monday.
I wouldn’t be shocked if the Royals-Braves play two on Saturday and the game on Friday night gets called as well.
Braves would play five games in three days if necessary.
To be fair to Manfred and the MLB… Nobody saw this Helene storm coming. There’s not even a way to predict these things.
It’s gonna be Some Shit when one of these teams clinches but is forced to play a double-header because the other team’s status is in doubt.
this is infuriating, to say the least

Galaxy brain Braves don’t get Their big box office anyways and dick up both teams
Idiotic and easily preventable. Just a serious lack of common sense, which doesn’t seem too common nowadays.
Mlb needs to build an extra day in for shit like this
Braves with all the momentum with your pitching rotation perfectly setup? 2024 says NAH
I’m just disappointed as a baseball fan we aren’t getting to see this series play out. Mets and Braves both had their top 3 starters going
Fucking morons the whole lot
Unexpected, but not surprised. They somehow managed to choose the option that pisses *everyone* off. Congratulations, MLB, you are an embarrassment to American sports.
For reference of the playoff hunt:
Mets are one up on the Braves. They’d need to be three up after Sunday to avoid one or both games being made up if the Braves are just chasing the Mets. (edited because the D-Backs are a half-game behind the Mets).
If we get the makeup games, the Mets winning both would secure them the season series against the Braves as a tiebreaker with the same record.
When it comes to any possible tiebreakers involving the Diamondbacks after 162 games, or the potential the Diamondbacks could slide and the games are necessary to be made up, the season series stands right now the Mets trail the Braves 6-5 in the season series and a 4-3 record over the Diamondbacks. The Braves have a 5-2 edge over Arizona.
Comical problem solving and logistics by the MLB here
Who could have seen this coming??? /s

wonder why the league didn’t have them both play monday (shared day off) and either a doubleheader tuesday or tuesday night-wednesday afternoon.
Was there even any discussion about moving the series to a neutral site before it was too late?
Giants and Padres, can yall handle this please?
disaster
Manfred is seriously the weakest commissioner in sports. You had a chance to have these games played but since you lack balls, decided to just let the storm roll on by and create this clusterfuck. But hey, at least we have umps checking pitchers for sticky stuff.
That is absolutely horrific. There’s not a stadium thats open somewhere where they can play a dh tomorrow?
This is clearly a sign that god does not want either team to make the playoffs. And no I am not biased
Garbage management by the Braves and MLB
What an absolute shitshow from the MLB office
Dumb question… since these games actually matter, would it have been feasible/preferable to play them at a neutral site instead?
