The Orioles (89-71) won the final game of the season that had actual meaning to it last night, as a comprehensive win over the Minnesota Twins cliches us home field advantage in the postseason Wild Card round, starting on Tuesday. All tht remains is whether we play Detroit or Kansas City, but right now it is looking very much like a tangle with the Tigers starting October 1st. Cade Povich had an excellent start in last night’s win, and the role he may play in October is certainly an interesting discussion point. That’s likely the focus as fans tuning into this one, going over how to best ready ourselves for the upcoming Wild Card series. One indication the Orioles themselves are already pivoting toward looking ahead to next week is that Albert Suarez, who was scheduled originally to pitch this game tonight, has been replaced on the Probables List by “Undecided”. So it may be a case where a roster move could use a AAA arm. Dean Kramer, who is slated to start the final game of the season tomorrow, may also give way to another option. Two games left, and a chance for Brandon Hyde to line our ducks up in a row as best we can. Right-hander Zebby Matthews, whose numbers this season are not pretty, will make the start for the Twins. It should be a fun, relaxing, chill hangout on today’s game. So saddle up, grab some snacks, a drink or six, and enioy the ballgame. Thank yooooouuuuuu.
