As I said yesterday, I am a fan of this move. Rice has been mashing the ball down in AAA (174 wRC+) and the batted ball data suggests that he was making high quality contact but getting unlucky (.344 xwOBA, .188 BABIP)
If Rizzo is going to be gone for the Playoffs I think rice is the next best option. He has a much higher potential with the bat than Cabrera (.344 xwOBA vs .285 xwOBA), has more reps playing 1B and is equally as good of a runner.
I was hoping they’d bring him back!
If losing rizzo is what kills this team in the playoffs then they weren’t going anywhere anyway.
Glad the kid might be getting another shot…will be curious to see who the everyday 1B choice is between him and Oswaldo
I hope the infield gets their throws up. 👀
Rice, along with Jasson, have two potentially great careers ahead of them with the right coaching and development.
I just don’t know if they’re ready for the October stage. But we are where we are. And I hope very much that they prove me wrong.
