Anyone who does not have a smooth brain knows Willy is going to get over paid by someone not named the Brewers unless he takes a shorter contract which he wont. Ortiz will be sexy at short IMO.
“Everybody knows that”
90% of this subreddit still thinks the problem is that we won’t pay him 😂
The brewers are going to throw an offer at him. Some other team will throw a bigger offer at him. It happens ALL OF THE TIME. Our only shot at keeping him was convincing him that signing a free agent contract in the prime of his career is a terrible idea and to please just ignore all of the other players who have done it and got paid big money.
As much as I give ownership a hard time I understand that they aren’t going to be able to put out a contract that will compete with large market teams. They will offer him a fair deal that they could afford but it won’t come close to what he will be able to fetch from the likes of LA, New York, Chicago, ect. It is what it is and anyone who doesn’t understand that doesn’t understand baseball.
The only chance of re-signing him is if his FA market is super down because of the sharp defensive falloff during the final 3 months of the season and I wouldn’t bet on that.
Dansby got a 7/180 contract from the Cubs. Adames is better than Dansby, and he just had a career year.
Brewers will probably go *around there* as an offer. Somewhere in the 7/8 year 180-190 mil range, maybe 200 mil.
And then the Giants or Mets or Red Sox or maybe Yankees if they want him to play 3B will offer him 225-230 mil and he would be *stupid* to not take it.
The high strikeouts and declining defense says let him go. Unless you can get him for a decent price.
I knew this was always coming but I hate hearing it out loud by someone like murph
It’s true but this is a fucking terrible comment by Murphy on the last day of the regular season before the playoffs start
I want our boy to get PAID. And hopefully he can be somewhere they’ll appreciate him.
Harder than replacing his production is his dugout presence. This team didn’t really have a personality between losing all the characters like Jesus, Thames, Suter & Orlando and Willy’s arrival. He even made Greg smile on occasion.

Is this bigger than when Prince left?
