Los Angeles Angels End Season at 99 Losses; 3 Questions for Detmers, Canning, and Kochanowicz

Los Angeles Angels End Season at 99 Losses; 3 Questions for Detmers, Canning, and Kochanowicz

How did the Los Angeles Angels in their final series of the season versus the Texas Rangers? Well, not great, but there’s a lot more to be said about the pitching in this final weekend of play. On today’s show, we’ll break down what happened in the final three games, but more importantly, ask a question of each starting pitcher from the weekend: what do you do with Reid Detmers, Griffin Canning, and Jack Kochanowicz as the Halos enter the offseason? We’ll get into it on today’s Locked On Angels!

  1. After following the Angels for many years, I stopped paying attention as much when Ohtani signed with the Dodgers. I don't mean to rub it in, but I sure have enjoyed seeing Ohtani excel and the team he's with actually win consistently. He deserves to be on a winning team (the MLB player with the most games played without being in a postseason game) and an excellent organization. Your expressions in the corner of this latest post tell me how miserable and frustrating it must have been for you guys this season, as you try to put some positive spin on a terrible season. It seems like there are a few positives from this season, but it sure didn't strike me as a cause for good vibes. So is the Angels franchise ever likely to become a winner, and who on the team now merits acclaim? Has Washington proved he is or can be a good manager, despite the dismal record? (I can't tell that his impact has been beneficial if their record is so poor anyway.) And what of the inconsistency in pitchers' performances?

  2. Few things to say: Detmers needs a good catcher to work with instead of O’Hoppe or thaiss, maybe a guy like Chad Wallach or a free agent like Austin hedges can get him right and to add insult to injury, hedges took him deep. I still faith in him, he’s just too in his own head.

Also, I feel like the defense can’t give our pitchers good outings, because wash is playing guys like Gustavo campero and Jack Lopez and Eric wagaman. This team can come back next year under wash’s leadership and coaching to get these guys to play sound defense with good baseball iq. Maybe a few pieces in the infield to complement the depth and this team will provide good defense for these pitchers, and these pitchers will get good results, that’s if you don’t give up 3 home runs per game (looking at Detmers and canning), you can do the little things first. The offense could also do the little things like working the count, get on-base, then you get those guys to do those big things. For the pitchers and defense, it’s about making those routine plays and getting quick outs, it comes with throwing first pitch strikes. That’s why I like Kochanowicz and Soriano so much because they provide those things.

  3. Just wanted to thank you guys for your work during this satan season. Love you knowledge and passion. I go into the offseason hoping the baseball gods for once smile down on the Angels. Thanks guys👍

  4. 2024 was the tenth consecutive year where the Halo's not only failed to make the playoffs, but finished below .500. I wonder if that's a record for a team that is not stuck in a small market? (Since the introduction of the wild card in the 90s) To make matters worse, the team went 16-38 the last two months of the season. Often, the tail-enders in the league show a little life, as the fringe players play hard in order to win a place on next year's team. Does this mean that no one on the team wants to come back next year? Oh well, hope springs eternal. Wait until next year. I can hardly wait for next year's Jack Kochanowicz Bubble Head night…. bring the kiddies!

  5. I still dont understand how jose suarez gets sent to the minors back in june because he is rediculously not good and still ends up back on the roster as a starter and is still a horrible pitcher.
