[Slater] Jordi Fernandez when asked whether a Ben Simmons-Nic Claxton pairing can work without scorers like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving:

“It’s hard to tell, I don’t have all the answers… So my answer is we’re about to find out… I’m not worried about trying. Because a lot of times, coaches, we have something in our heads, and a lot of times, we’re wrong, and we’ve got to see it through. Right now, I’m not gonna put limitations on anybody, especially on a group that is playing very hard, especially on two players that are special. So I’m about to find out, and then I’ll do what’s best for the team.”

  1. To win an actual serious game, where the opponent is playing high level defense? Absolutely not, the pairing didn’t even work well with KD and Kyrie.

For the purposes of tanking? Absolutely it will work great to watch our perimeter players get doubled because spacing is atrocious

  2. Jordi actually sounds like a head coach which is brilliant news for the Nets after fans have suffered through the three worst consecutive head coaches any franchise in the NBA have had: Steve Nash, Jacque Vaughn and Kevin Ollie. None are head coach material and very likely none of them will ever be a head coach in the NBA again.

I’m excited to see Jordi’s innovate methods and how he can actually develop young talent. He was so highly regarded in Sac-town. Brave move to hire another rookie head coach by Sean Marks but with Jordi’s coaching experience with Canada’s national team I’m excited to see what Jordi Fernandez can do with the Nets.

  3. I think it can work to an extent, but not successfully. The only way it can even KINDA work? One of them actually keeps the defense honest…with jumpers…outside the paint…
