Breaking: Team that has been selling out its stadium all year wants its fans at its playoff games.
Because this seemingly got forgotten the last time this happened, this is only for single game tickets (which will sell out quickly). Nothing is stopping Dodgers fans from buying on a 3rd party marketplace if they really want to go to a game at Petco.
Idk how this is ever a story. Do people just never attempt to go with Seat Geek or Stubhub once the official Padres website blocks them? It’s incredibly easy to get tickets
Annoying, but not a huge deal compared to things like forbidding the wearing the other team’s colors like some teams have done in the playoffs.
It’s a non-story. They did this 2 years ago and other teams have done this before and since including the LA Rams
Nothing wrong with this. What would be extremely lame is doing something like what the Sixers did in the playoffs which was buy up tickets and give them to fans because they can’t even get their own fans to fill seats otherwise. But just giving your owns fans priority for buying tickets is pretty reasonable
Nothing is stopping the Dodgers from not allowing people with Credit Cards in San Diego to buy tickets to game 1 and 2. NFL teams do this for the playoffs all the time too. It makes sense too, rather have people from your city get a chance to go see their team in the playoffs.
Also it amazes me, but there are still tons of people who do not know about Seatgeek, Stubhub or Gametime or think they are scams. They have been legit sites for years, and if they don’t get you the ticket, they refund you. This is the playoffs, so do not be surprised if tickets are pricier on there too.

this isn’t anything new, nor out of reason. sports teams in general have been doing this for meaningful games for the last 5 years

I love English soccer so I think it would be cool if there was like an allotment of 2500 tickets for just away fans all together. MLB stadiums aren’t set up like that so I know it’s not realistic just would be a cool thing to see. Also North American sports need relegation so shitty owners can’t run teams into the ground for gain.

Phillies did this more stealthy in 2022. They had a waiting room style system when the tickets dropped.
At work, I was able to get in, buy tickets, create a new account with my work email, get back through and buy more tickets but my wife couldn’t get through once, she was in the waiting room for an hour before giving up.
My home network is setup to black dns location tracking so it would think she wasn’t in the local area.
I’m genuinely curious if you’ve purchased tickets to a baseball game before
Why are dodgers fans complaining about this when they haven’t sold out their own home games yet? Go to those???
So by pure chance, I’ll be visiting Southern California next week staying in Anaheim in between both the Dodgers and the Padres. I’m considering going to a game even though I don’t really have rooting interests. Which stadium would be the better one to visit? Will ticket prices be absolutely insane, or could I get an upper deck seat for $100 or less? I’ve been to Petco before, but never to Dodger Stadium. Am I better off showing up in Nats gear or buying something Dodgers/Padres related for the game?

I don’t understand this post. Tickets aren’t even available, except for on third party sites. They sold out over the weekend.
I like this tbh. Nothing is more important in any sport than local fans. Giving them high priority for these biggest games of the season against a nearby team that every Padres fan loves to beat the most makes sense.
More sports teams should do this. Put local fans first and let non-locals get access with resale.

As I watched my team’s season come to an end the cameras showed Tony Hawk in a Padres jersey and the burn felt less hot.
A drama infused click-baiting non-story. This was also implemented during the Braves series. Dodger fans (mainly on Twitter) are just looking for new reasons to minimize our beautiful Petco Park and our fans.

There’s no real issue buying tickets anyway if you want to go, just through a reseller, but I always find it funny that they’re all but admitting they’d be overrun with Dodger fans if they didn’t do this.

Never understood why this is even something that gets reported on. I have no problem with hometown folks getting tickets, and if someone really wants to go they can always buy from third parties.
I like how you can live in Las Vegas and get tickets but not Los Angeles.

Just buy on TickPicks – They have no fees, a lot better than stubhub or ticketmaster.
I waited until 4:45 to buy my tickets to yesterday’s game and got killer seats for $200 each only $20 more than the original ticket price. Might not work as well for the Dodger/Padre games doing the last minute buy but worth a shot if you want to save some money on good seats and not get taxed on fees.
