When we got Jrue, I thought he would become a luxury because I thought Porzingis was the missing piece to a championship. However, once Porzingis went down, Jrue really stepped up. Despite hearing how he was a playoff choker, dude stepped up in the most important moments in the most important games. He ended up becoming the missing piece that vaulted us over the top.
Other teams are trying to catch that team, but I don’t think anyone really knows what this team looks like fully healthy in the playoffs.
This Trade was such a miracle for the team.
It was obvious how Porzingis could level up the offense, but I was so nervous about our defense after losing smart. It looked like we were going from a defense first team to one that needed to run up the score, but was going to be dependent on a oft injured 7-footer for that to work.
Jrue is the only player in the league who can replace smarts defense without taking a step back, but is also an all-star level offensive talent. Which also meant there was zero way out conference rivals would ever let us have him.
Then a week before the season he just falls into our lap. (Not for free of course – still miss Rob very much)
