  1. > Sometimes certain things are viewed as tragedy. Sometimes things are viewed as beautiful,” said Castellanos. “You know, whenever I hit a homer, it’s just how you look at it. It’s funny, ESPN actually approached me because they wanted to do an exclusive story on the man who hits home runs at all these inopportune times. But it didn’t work out because they wouldn’t give me editorial rights of the story to make sure that I liked it before it came out. They wouldn’t do that, so opportunity lost.

  2. Good. Fuck ESPN. What happen did they run out of LeBron and Dallas cowboys stories for once?

  3. Well, yeah, that’s the correct call for any news organization. Otherwise it’s not journalism, it’s PR.

  4. Good on him. This really shouldn’t be anything more than a meme and a funny inside joke. Trying to make it something bigger feels like it would take away from the joke and make light of some serious things that have coincidentally happened when he hits a HR. It would be awkward to hear something like “remember when you recently hit a HR on the anniversary of 9/11 lol?” I too wouldn’t want ESPN of all media outlets that lack shame and regard in order to sell a story to keep this a tongue and cheek fun article.

  5. Yeah, legitimate news sources tend not to let the subject of a story also be the editor.

  6. lol I mean who does he think he is? Wants rights for a five minute piece? Just do it yourself then, Nick.

  7. I don’t think anyone’s a bad guy here.

No journalist and editor worth a damn are going to give the subject editorial approval of a story. He can contribute quotes or not, and if he wants more control, he can write his own article, like the Players’ Tribune stuff (with the help of a ghost writer, if necessary).

But on the other side, Castellanos probably just doesn’t want to end up the victim of an ESPN hack job, which is understandable. You have some sensitive topics and he probably doesn’t want to end up embarrassed. Sometimes it’s just easier to take a pass on these things.

  8. Casty is one of the best interviews in the game. I think ESPN missed out on this one lol
