  1. “Yes and uh, I think Vancouver can win the Cup this year-“ – Friedman 2024

    Somewhat frame this quote!

  2. We’re about to pop off like we haven’t seen in a long time I think. Rolling four lines with lots of possession time.

Slot in a random 7 million worth in trade deadline players, baby we got a stew going

  3. I feel like he was going to say more about it.

Obviously there’s a lot of factors and they have to go right for the Canucks to have a chance. Demko absolutely can carry them to the Cup… but his knees are weak and it’s unknown how much he can carry. I don’t like our chances as much with the other goaltenders. Silovs might be a stud but he’s unproven. Defence is another thing, I can’t judge them before the season even starts but on paper they don’t look as good as last year. I trust Tocchet will work his magic but he can only do so much.

Offence will be okay, if Pettersson can stay healthy and play like he’s capable of then we’ll have two dominant lines. Well three actually, maybe even four.

  4. We’ve got a great team with a great core, as evidenced by last season’s run, but Jesus, let’s all calm down a tad shall we?

Could we win the Stanley Cup? Sure. So many things would have to fall into place though, in terms of injuries, trades and signings, not getting stung by bad officiating, etc. Even then, it probably won’t be enough. Other teams would need to have worse outcomes.

So sure, it’s possible. We’re one of 8 teams that has a legit shot at this point. By the end of the regular season, that will probably be down to six, different teams.

Regardless, this team is fantastic to watch, has a great core, and will be playing some solid entertaining hockey for years to come. If they can put out consistently high results for the next 5-10 years, then the odds are in our favour. But that’s no guarantee.

  5. In 2011-ish, it felt as though we were late in reaching our peak, so even though we were very good, it didn’t seem sustainable.
Now I feel, with good management (and good luck), we could be dangerous for a while.

  6. I’m pretty sure he predicted Demko would win the Vezina two seasons ago and he subsequently got injured and our goaltending went to shit so I’m not sure I like him making this prediction lol

  7. Not since 2012 really but the Kings were just built different. I think if we beat them, it would’ve been one of the weaker paths to a Cup in recent memory.

  8. On Kypers show on Friday with his favourite coach special guest, he couldn’t believe he was taking Canucks over Oilers.

    Kyper was shook

  9. I think our D core is way too iffy to make a statement like this. I also think that will drastically change by end of season. We also need to take into consideration that we may need to trade Boeser before the trade deadline if we can’t re-sign him to a reasonable contract.

  10. Maybe I’m too pessimistic, but I don’t feel good about the Demko situation. I feel like he’s going to fighting injuries all season again. Maybe Silovs can hold down the fort? It’s a big question mark.

  11. I will add for context: He also said earlier on he could easily see an Edmonton-Dallas rematch for the WCF (which is a perfectly fair take) but I think that was his “the cookie could crumble out this way though” addendum.

I think the thought is if we win the WCF, we probably win the cup, and I kinda agree with that, but I also think that it’s dicey if we make the WCF let alone win it.
