I’m a Yankees fan who lives in Kansas and works at a radio station who is an affiliate for the Royals. Last night during game 3 of the ALDS the Royals Radio Network went out. Trying to find a quick solution to get the game back on the air our Operations Manager decided we’d just recreate it like they used to do from the old ticker tapes. I pulled up the game on my phone opened up AtBat on the computer and called the game as I saw it from the 5th inning on. I’ve always dreamed of calling an MLB playoff game this isn’t exactly how I pictured it happening but I’ll take it!

Damn. Awesome story.
What a way to improvise. Well done!
Damn that’s supremely cool, congrats and I bet they were happy to have you as a backup.
This is awesome. Is there any way to listen to a clip or something?
That’s quite a throwback. What a great experience for you.
That’s pretty awesome
Awesome stuff! You will never forget this awesome moment.
How cool man, congratulations, wish we had you instead of Costas.
Was it hard to stay neutral ? Or did you pull a Bob costas
That’s immediately on the resumé, congrats!
It would be funny if you just started making shit up. And that ball softly grounded to short AND WITT DOES A DOUBLE BACKFLIP BEFORE THROWING IT TO 1ST.
Congrats!
OP MADE IT!
Wish I get this opportunity at some point
Great improv! Worked the board (and update desk) in radio for about 5 years… had an outage once and did similar by stalling with a loose “halftime report” style deal just going around the NBA while we scrambled to reconnect 😂
20 years later the ability to essentially broadcast the game through streams and stat apps and all that is such a great game changer to have available. Really well done 🫡
Was this 690 AM in (I think) coffeyville?
I was driving from KC to Tulsa and Matt and Shay on 690 kept me updated when no one else did.
What’s your catch phrase?
Very cool!
This is fucking awesome!
Wait, how does this work? Were you calling the game exclusively via MLB Gameday?
Seeing “in play, no outs” and waiting to see what the play was/how it was scored must have felt like an eternity on live radio.
Supremely badass story. Good shit
That’s awesome OP, I’m glad you got to do this and maybe it will open doors down the road. 🙂
That is so awesome!!
No one’s yet mentioned that Ronald Reagan started out doing this. He worked at a radio station in Iowa and received wire updates on Cubs games, around which he would spin play-by-play accounts as though he were at the park.
Can someone start doing live stream commentary of playoff games so we don’t have to hear these atrocious national commentators anymore?
Awesome man, congratulations! Now to use this as a starter, to get you more on air.
Freaking awesome man. Congrats.
So cool! Would love to hear some of the audio, but from the comments here it sounds like you did a great job. Talk about a pretty high pressure scenario and stepping up!
Do you have video/audio?
Dude this is so fucking cool. Congrats brother!
So cool but I am confused as to why you couldn’t narrate while watching the video stream?
Fellow radio guy here (30+ years as a board op, DJ, engineer, producer, operations guy, etc.). Kudos on your quick thinking and commitment to your listeners! And congrats on getting to do something awesome.
Oh shit is that what happened?? I had to drive to deal with a horse emergency and was hoping to listen while I drove. Ended up scanning the am stations and must have been you that I found. Good looking out man. 🫡🫡
